Nora Viola King born in 1899 (my grandmother) and Baucum King born around 1896. Clara died around 1913. She had been married to Jesse Lee and had a lot of children by Jesse Lee. Her maiden name was Eidson and I believe Thomas was a family name used as her middle name. It is possible he had a sister (name unknown) who may have lived in Homer. None of his relatives (all older now) seem to know anything about him. Thanks for any information. He is buried in Old Shongaloo cemetery on one side of Clara and her first husband buried on the opposite side.

Can you tell me if this Hugh or of his brother William Johnston or if any other Johnston appeared on the Claiborne Parish Census of 1850? I found Joseph Burns the father of Cynthia and Althea on the 1840 Census of the Claiborne County. I have tried to search the 1860 Census and so far have not found any Johnstons. Does anyone know what County the Burns family came from in Mississippi before coming to Claiborne Parish? Also searching for Franklin Short family that lived in Claiborne parish at least in the mid 1800's as they are listed in the 1850 census. He had land patents for several parcels in the Parish. The family moved to Grayson County, Texas by 1870. There was a Josias Short that received a land patent on October 13, 1898 in the Parish. Any help or direction for these families would be most appreciated.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CCB.2ACE/221 Message Board Post: We have been searching for the family of Samuel H. McClung who came to Claiborne Parish about 1863 from Jefferson Co., AL. Perhaps there are descendants still in the area. His brother, William E. McClung brought his family there also. Here is the listing we have posted at the Georgia site for McClungs who went to LA: X-3 SAMUEL H. McCLUNG GAXXX The brother of William Elias McClung was born 1833 in Georgia. He married Silvely Jane Hackeby (by tradition, Hatley) 17 Nov 1853 in Carroll Co., GA. Their first two children were born in Georgia before they moved to Alabama about 1859. (We need to check the 1860 census of Jefferson Co., AL). Five children were born in Alabama before they moved to Claiborne Co., LA. They were residing there in 1880 where they were enumerated close to his brother, William E. McClung. Also listed as living in the family in that year was an Amma J. McClung b. 1864 in LA, no relationship given. This would indicate that a third member of the family had come to LA several years earlier than Wm. E. and Samuel. 1-4 BLUFORD G. McCLUNG GAXXX The first child of Samuel H. and Silvely Jane Hatley McClung was b. 1855 in GA. He was age 25 and unmd when the 1880 census was taken in LA. 2-4 FRANCIS M. McCLUNG GAXXX The second child of Samuel H. and Silvely Jane Hatley McClung was b. 1858 in GA. He was 22 years old and living with his parents in 1880, Claiborne, LA. 3-4 WILLIAM E. McCLUNG GAXXX The third child of Samuel H. and Silvely Jane Hatley McClung was b.1860 in Alabama, probably in Jefferson County. He moved to Claiborne Parish, LA with his family about 1863. 4-4 MARY McCLUNG GAXXX The fourth child of Samuel H. and Silvely Jane Hatley McClung was b. 1864 in AL. 5-4 MAHALA J. McCLUNG GAXXX The fifth child of Samuel H. and Silvely Jane Hatley McClung was b. 1867 in AL. 6-4 SUSAN R. McCLUNG GAXXX The sixth child of Samuel H. and Silvely Jane Hatley McClung was b.1870 in AL. 7-4 SAMUEL R. McCLUNG GAXXX The seventh child of Samuel H. and Silvely Jane Hatley McClung was b. 1873 in AL. X-X H. T. McCLUNG GAXXX There is this listing of a man, H. T. who was born 1853 in AL, wife, C.T. born 1857 in GA and with a son, J.E. b. 1879 in Claiborne Parish, LA. He is living next to or very near Samuel H. McClung as they are enumerated on the same page. It is not likely that he is a son as Samuel's family was still in Georgia when this man was born. If anyone has information, please send it to: jmcclung@cland.net
