I was in Lake Charles in March and I went to the Library. I did not get to the mircofilm that you mentioned. Was it the Maude Reid collection? I did find somemore obits and census records. I get down there every year for a day at the library and the rest of the time we are visiting everyone. I do have some Koonce's buried at Big Woods Cemetery. Thank you. Mary

My first memories were of living at my grandfather's Dairy in Lake Charles - Dixie Dairy. I would like to have some "fill-in" information on the Dairy if anyone can help. The Lake Charles Directory of 1925 has the listing of Greene W. Duke at 1206 4th street which is also given as the address of Dixie Dairy. From family memories, he actually had the cattle at that address but was later required to move them - somewhere out east Broad Street (my brother was born in 1929 while we were living there - the address on his birth certificate is Route 1 Box 52A). The last listing for the dairy is in the 1931 directory - the next directory available is 1934 and the dairy is no longer listed. Since I was born in 1924 my memory of those early days is a tad fuzzy and of course I did not become interested in "ancient history" until everyone who could answer the questions was gone. If anyone can help - or offer suggestions as to how I may pursue this - I would be most appreciative. Floreda Duke Varick 116 Glenhaven Terrace Tallahassee, Fl 32312

A couple of weeks ago, I posted the address of my web page where the Calcasieu and St Landry first families projects are located. Several interested parties have had trouble accessing the page, so if that includes you, try http://home.att.net/~lvhayes/home.htm instead of the address previously posted. Public response to the St Landry project has been good, and I've been able to update the list about 4 times since first putting it online, with additional changes coming. Prudent B. Cambre, a native of Reserve, LA in St. John Parish, has been researching the Cambre family for many years. Michel Cambre and Mathias Cambre, natives of Germany, settled in St John Parish in the mid-1750s. Cambre family members can be found today in many parishes throughout Louisiana and in several other states. Prudent is planning on publishing a book on the Cambre family early next year and realizes that there is much information he doesn't have because of the fact that the family has spread far and wide. He is inviting anyone who has family information to provide it so that he can include it in the book. If you have information that you would like to submit, you can e-mail it to me at Jperilloux@home.com or snail mail it to: P.B. Cambre 2509 Broadmoor Drive Bryan, TX 77802 Since Prudent is 90 years old and he plans on starting publication early next year, time is of the essence.
