This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Lindsey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XCB.2ACI/676 Message Board Post: My grandmother, Emma Clifton Turnage Lindsey died 10 Oct 1945 in Gowan (or Oschner?) Hospital in Shreveport. She was there being treated for tuberculosis. Does anyone know anything about these hospitals? was either one a TB treatment center at that time? "Cliffie" had been living in Monroeville, AL before going to LA for treatment. She grew up in Mississippi. I'm not why she was hospitalized in Shreveport - maybe that was the closest place that handled TB at the time?
Hullo M.L.; There was[is?] a place west of Shreveport called 'The Pines' where an uncle of mine went for TB treatment in the early '50s. Hope this helps. Not sure anyone answered this. I thought that Oschner hospital was down South Louisiana. We did have a TB hospital here a long time ago. ----- Original Message ----- From: <mlsmith67@earthlink.net> To: <LACADDO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 03, 2003 10:34 PM Subject: [LACADDO] Gowan or Oschner Hospital, Shreveport > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Lindsey > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XCB.2ACI/676 > > Message Board Post: > > My grandmother, Emma Clifton Turnage Lindsey died 10 Oct 1945 in Gowan (or Oschner?) Gowan Sanitorium was a TB treatment center in Shreveport where people cane and stayed for long periods of time when their disease was active. I don't know whether there was ever any connectin with Oschner's which is in New Orleans. The location was at Line Avenue and (I think) Tree Lane, just South of Hollywood/Pierremont. The site is presently occupied by a nursing home and some retail businesses. Jean in Shreveport Elaine Nagel wrote: > Not sure anyone answered this.
