    1. Indian Reservation near Missionary, Louisiana

    3. There seems to be a few main discussions I need to reply to. 1. The Indian Reservation near Missionary, Louisiana in 1865. and 2. Previous locations of ancestors. Well mother will have to answer the second as she is the family genealogist. I will check the other and let the group know. Does anyone know the Section, Township and Range of this Missionary, Louisiana??? I'm pretty sure it is Caddo Parish, but since I don't do Caddo, I don't know! In general, on the subject of the reservation, the Caddo Indians sold all their rights about 1835 and moved westward. Many have said that they became part of the Indian group that massacred "Golden Hair." They were not welcome in Northeast Texas as they had caused trouble for those residents and Texas had actually invaded North Louisiana in 1835 to retaliate against those Indians. They are the only Indian group to state in their treaty that they would not live inside the United States after selling their lands. The indians did later sue their agent, Jacob Irwin, and the US Government claiming they never got the money for their land. That lawsuit and testimony does exist, although I have never read it at length. A copy of that information is at LSU-Shreveport Archives. Pictures of the Indian chiefs have been found. Do not forget that the end of the Trail of Tears was near Fort Smith, Arkansas and many Indians lived there and Bill O'Daniels ascendent, Charlotte Dove O'Daniel actually returned there from Bossier Parish after her white husband died. Maybe John Prime will notice this discussion and get us the address of the Caddo Indians that hold the Pow-Wows each year in Shreveport so that they could help us with this search. Sincerely Yours, Clifton D. Cardin, Official Bossier Parish Historian _
