Hi All! I'm looking for information for my grandmother, Ruby Edna SINGLETON b. either 1916 or 1918 (most likely 1916) d. 1976 Terrell, Kaufman Co., TX. We had always thought she was born in Texas. However, I've just learned that she told one of her son's that she had been born in Vivian, LA. I would like to verify if possible. If anyone has access to the 1920 Caddo Parish census, I would love a look-up. Her parents were M.H. (Full name Manning Howell, went by Howell) SINGLETON and Lula (Francis L.) WILEY Singleton. Previous census info states her parents were born in TN. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Donna Allen

Donna: I have searched and could not find Ruby Singleton in Caddo Parish, LA in 1920. I did find her in Kaufman County, TX in 1930. Evidently her father had died and her mother, Frances L., was married to Mack Meeks (not to positive about the name Meeks, but that is my best guess.) It looks like the Singleton husband had died and Frances had been married to a Lane before being married to the Meeks, because of the children in the household. Listed as Stepdaughters were Edith O. and Ruby E. Singleton, Listed as a Stepson was C. L. Lane. All three of these children's mother was born in TN. Other children in the household were, V. R. son, age 12, Charlie R. son, age 8 (mother of both of these born in TX), Then Rachel M, dau., 5 and M. D., son, 1 6/12, (both of these showed mother born in TN). Now I interpret this to mean that Frances L. was married 3 times and had a total of 5 children by 1930. Married 1st to Singleton, second to a Lane, and third to Mack Meeks. She was, by the way, 53 years old when the 1930 census was taken. I searched Caddo Parish 1920 for a Frances Lane and Ruby Lane, and for Singleton, but nothing showed on any of the searches. I also searched Texas in 1920 for Frances Lane. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
