Francine- Thank you for emailing me back. I bet the K.O & Roy Dale Pearson were cousins, but I haven't got enough info yet. Was the school called Vivian? Also, while I'm at it, have you ever heard the last name Border? My grandfather had a cousin he used to talk about named Howard Border, who would have been much older than you, but maybe the father of someone you knew? Also, do you remember hearing anything about the murder of a woman named Mae Hayes by her husband in a beauty salon in Shreveport? She was killed about 1953. I have the newspaper article. Her husband, Virgil Frank Hayes, died about 20 years later, I believe in prison. I would love to know about the school part especially. Oh, how about Ethelene Steed? She was my aunt and went to school near Ida, maybe you knew her? Steed was her maiden name and she was my grandmother's half-sister, born about 1930-ish. She passed away in El Paso about 3 years ago. I had only met her a few months before that. Shelby: I graduated from Ida High School in 1950. There were 18 in my graduating class. We had lots and lots of fun, for everyone knew everyone and it was great! There was a Pearson in our graduating class. He was K. O. Pearson. Unfortunately he was killed about a year later in an automobile accident. I do not remember the name of his father, but remember an older brother named Roy Dale who had red hair. That's about all I remember about the Pearson family. I do not recall a James or Robert, but they would have been about 10 or 12 years behind me. A few years after we graduated, the high school was consolidated and all the high school students went to Vivian to North Caddo High School. The elementery school continued for a few years, but then it was consolidated also. After that, I understand that a private school was organized and continued to use the School building in Ida for a few years. Now the school building has been torn down, the gymnasium has fallen almost down and it is all concealed by trees and just a jungle. Can't tell the school was ever there.... very sad! Every year the graduating class had a picture panel made that was hung in the school hallway. These pictures were rescued before the building was torn down and now are displayed in the Community Center in Ida. If I can help further, let me know. francine........... hahahaha! bebe is my aunt........my father's younger sister. isn't that funny? so...it is her grandfther's family that i am looking for. for some reason no one seems to know much about them. i seem to be "making it my life's work" to find that man and his family.......i have said that "he can run but he can't hide".........but so far he is doing a magnificient job of hiding! i think, at times, that i have really hit on something.....then another dead end. "legend" tells it that he (jonathan robert chandler) came to miller county, ark. at the age of 9 with his mother, father, sister and half brother. i am thinking that the half brother (whom an uncle calls "jack") was wyatt jackson chandler. i have received that info from several people......and have a copy of a land document (a very bad copy....can't tell much about it) that both men had signed. i am in the process of getting homestead documents for a wyatt chandler as well as a caroline chandler who were in miller county. i am just waiting for their arrival and hope they may help some. i know i will have to come to louisiana (i live in northwest ohio) and do some sleuthing on my own.........just haven't gotten there yet. actually i did come to visit my father's older sister (maurine is the oldest of the siblings and bebe is the youngest. two are deceased......my father, robert allison and his younger brother, don) about 4 years ago.........but she lives in lafayette. anyway...enough ..thank you so much for your "aid and assistance"......if you have any kind of brainstorm that you think might help i would be so ever greatful!!!!!..........and who is this homer chandler? mary ann ----- Original Message ----- From: "Francine" <granij@comcast.net> To: <LACADDO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 20, 2003 5:41 PM Subject: Re: [LACADDO] Marriage of James Pearson and Elizabeth/Lizzie Gibson > > Mary Ann: > > Boy, you have raised my eyebrows! George W. Smithe 1838-1873, lived in parishes: Caddo, Bienville, Carroll and Bossier. He served the Confederacy in the Civil War. He mar Mary Heloise Larche in 1863. The children of George & M. H. L. Smithe were: George Harry Smithe and Miriam Smithe; the 1880 census also shows another daughter, identified only as "Sis" or "Sie",/f/w/ b. abt 1871-72, in Carroll Parish or Caddo Parish. Need help correctly identifying 'Sis' Smithe. Did she die young? She is not in any other census after 1880. What was her real name? His widow and 2 children moved to Shreveport after his death and made their home at a residence on Kings Hwy,in Shreveport, after Miriam Smithe mar George Wilson. George H. Smithe is buried at an old cem near downtown Shreveport as is also Mary Larche Smithe. Any help much appreciated. Jeanie Smithe Hardin proteus1010@sbcglobal.net

Mary Ann: Boy, you have raised my eyebrows! My best friend growing up was Bebe Chandler, daughter of Dennis and Gladys Allison Chandler. Bebe and I have stayed in contact through the years. Now, do you come from her line or from the Homer Chandler line..... or is there still another that I don't remember? Mary Ann: Miller County in Arkansas was formed out of Lafayette in 1874. And yes, it was form entirely out of Lafayette County. All records of that part of Arkansas are found in Lafayette County prior to 1874. Is you Pearson family part of the Pearson family that lived near Ida in northern Caddo Parish? I grew up there and went to school with several Pearsons. Shelby, if they were married in Caddo Parish the marriage should be recorded in the Courthouse in Shreveport. I have gotten marriages from that period from there. Write to Office of the Parish Clerk, Caddo Parish Courthouse, Shreveport, LA 71101 and request cost of obtaining copies of that marriage. Be sure to include a stamped, self-addressed envelope. If you get a reply, then send the money to cover cost and they should send you a copy of the marriage record. Sometimes this will work and sometimes not, according to how busy the clerks are at the time. If not, maybe someone will volunteer to check for you. If you find that their marriage is not recorded in Caddo Parish, check the surrounding parishes, and don't forget to check in the counties of Texas and Arkansas. I found a lot of Caddo Parish Marriages recorded in the Courthouse in Lewisville, Lafayette County, AR. However, these were much earlier before Miller County, AR was taken from Lafayette County. I wish you a lot of luck!
