I am looking for information about a George Fisher, who was listed as living in Caddo Parish on the 1840 census. My ancestor was George Fisher, who moved to Louisiana about that time from Copiah County, MS, but the listings for the family members do not match up. The only proof that I have that he was definitely in the area is that his daughter, Mary Ann Fisher, married Greenberry Young Chambliss in DeSota County in 1845. DeSota Parish was formed from part of Caddo Parish in 1843, so in 1840 George could have lived in what is now DeSota Parish. On the census, there is only ONE George Fisher in Louisiana in 1840. Any suggestions on how I can positively identify this George Fisher ???? Sue

I don’t have a lot of information, but briefly it is: WILLIAM E. NEAL, born Abt. 1854 in Copiah County, MS married MRS. Mamie FARMER WARREN sometime before 1910 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana. I don’t know who Mamie’s parents were, but she was born abt. 1870 in Louisanna. The following newspaper clipping (which does not include a date) found in a family bible is the only real information I have regarding Mamie’s connection to LA, except for Texas census records in which state that she was born in LA. “Mr. William E. NEAL of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Mrs. Mamie Farmer WARREN, of this place, were married in Shreveport last Saturday. Rev. Felix B. Hill officiating. The groom is a traveling salesman and is held in high esteem by those who know him. The bride is one of the most popular and accomplished teachers in our parish. She will be greatly missed in our educational circles. The best wishes of a large circle of friends and admirers follow her to her new home. Mr. and Mrs. Neal will make their home in Nacogodoches.”

Theresa, Forgive the late responding. Your note caught my eye and I thought I would let you know that I have the BRAGG name quite a bit in my family information. My direct line is actually in the BEASLEY name but the BRAGG's and BEASLEY's married. My line of BRAGG evidently traveled from Mississippi and/or Tennessee, in about 1847, with the BEASLEY family, (Jesse and his wife Elizabeth) and settled in Navarro and Roane Counties in Texas. His name was Joseph BRAGG and he married Julian HAMILTON. These 3 families, BEASLEY, BRAGG, and HAMILTON, were very instrumental in the progress of Navarro and Roane Counties. There is a quarterly publication called Navarro Leaves and Branches, (which I found at my library) that has lots of history with the BEASLEY and BRAGG names listed frequently. With my BRAGG line, I've been able to get back to 1812 in Alabama with the birth of a William BRAGG. (one brother to the above mentioned Joseph) It appears that at least 6 more children were born through 1833, all in Alabama. Then, the next generation of BRAGG seemed to be coming together in Texas. The head of this specific household (father to Joseph and William) is Jesse BRAGG, married to Nancy (don't know the last name). I have absolutely no information on Jesse and I estimate the year of his birth to be about 1789 - 1793. Jesse and Nancy had 8 children total. I also have a W.S. BRAGG and his wife, S.E. BRAGG, who sold the Post Oak Baptist Church of Christ in Navarro County to Mat BEASLEY, Wiley BEASLEY, and J.M. FRAZIER for $30 dollars in July of 1883. There were 3 acres of land included with this purchase, not to mention the building. A school was built across the road from the church and the grounds began serving as a cemetery. Anyway, I have at least 25 people in my tree with the name BRAGG. I did a search however, and I have no CARRINGTON, no CARR, no CHEATHAM, no BROWN, and no WEST. I have one MOSLEY who is in my tree by marriage and I have zero information on her. I hope I haven't caused you confusion. If you want more information please feel free to email me at kathlinestewart@earthlink.net. Kathline Stewart

Hi I am Karen Carter and I am looking for my information on my grandparents. They moved to Shreveport, LA sometime after 1911 that is when they was married in Crawford Co., IL. I found them on the 1920 census and would like any information that I can find. Stories have been handed down that they was chased out of LA by the Klan. His birth name was Mordicia Clarence Carter but went by Clarence Martin Carter my grandmother was Florence Belle (Goff) Carter or might have been Belle Florence. I know that 2 uncles and 1 aunt was born in the Caddo parish area. Fred Jackson Carter born 2-22-1920, Daggert Leon Carter born 10-1922, Oma Florence Carter born after 1922. I know that on the 1920 census Clarence was working in a glass factory. I also know that grandma had two children that was either stillborn or died shortly after birth but I don't know if these was born in IL or LA. Any help would be appreciated whether good or bad, this is all the information that I have on my grandpa and would like to confirm the stories that are about him. Karen Carter
My father's uncle was Louis Delaney, born in Sicily. Uncle Louis' wife was Rose(a) and had sons Maynard (Marian) and Roy. He had daughters Josephine, Mabel & Rose. They lived in Shreveport and I believe Roy still does, Maynard worked for a car dealership. I met Maynard and his wife Nell in the early 50s when we lived in Alexandria but didn't know much about them. My father was estranged from his Sicilian relatives because of his grandmother but had kept touch with some of his cousins. Now that I live In Lafayette, I'd like to find more about them. If any one can help me with my Sicilian Delaneys (diLeno) I would appreciate it. Belva Delaney Gurr, belvad@bellsouth.net
