    3. Hello, I am Mary Ellen Caldwell Dickerson, living just east of Shreveport. I started researching my Caldwell ancestry in 1976 and have enjoyed tremendous success, of course, with a couple of exceptions. My gr-gr-grandfather, Andrew Caldwell and his wife Elizabeth McNeel (McNeil) moved to Bienville Parish sometime around 1860. He had served in the Creek Indian War while living in Choctaw Co., AL; moved from there to Ouachita Co., AR and on to Liberty Hill in Bienville Parish, where he died in 1879. He and his wife are both buried at Old Taylor Cemetery at Liberty Hill. Family records show Andrew's parents to be James Caldwell and Sarah Lucinda Underwood Caldwell. James and Lucinda were married in 1797, Columbia Co., GA. They probably died in or around Conecuh Co., AL. One brick wall has been Andrew's daughter, Mary, who married Zachariah D. Tilley. Both are buried at Bear Creek Cemetery at Bryceland. Another has been Andrew's son, Thomas Jefferson Caldwell, who married Louisa J. Leatherman, daughter of Thomas Leatherman. I tracked Thomas from Claiborne Parish to Robeline and from there to Lake Charles, where he applied for a Civil War pension. From there, I have lost him. Another brick wall in my grandfather's sister, Mary "Mollie" who married first W. R. Morgan in Bienville Parish and second to H. W. Morris in Webster Parish. After that, I have lost her. A huge handicap is the fact that my grandfather, Sidney Charles Caldwell, died in 1936, before I was born and my grandmother, Nannie Young Caldwell, died when I was 10. By the time I was 20, my closest living Caldwell relative was my father and he knew very little about his family history. I do owe great thanks to the late Mattie Lou Caldwell Daniel of Arcadia and to the late Chapman Caldwell of Liberty Hill; both these terrific people helped me so much when I first began my research. Thank you for your time. Mary Ellen
