Ancestors I am researching who resided in Bienville Parrish, LA: JOHN J. MAYS MOSES J. MAYS SEABORN J. MAYS These and other MAYS men served the Confederacy during the Civil War and listed their residence as Bienville Par. I am interested these and any other MAYS families residing there during this time frame. The family of JOHN WORSHAM, particularly THOMAS J. WORSHAM. The Mays and the Worsham families eventually moved to Texas, not sure exactly when. My gr-grandparents were Moses J. Mays and Addie C. Worsham. I believe that Addie was born in LA. Anyone else researching these families? GayNell Tinsley Wells
Hi, it's me again. My ggfather was Henry Y. Carter, who was a Civil War Veteran. He was married to Mariah Harrell in Amite County, MS, and they moved to Bienville Parish in 1865. He died in 1885, burial place unknown. His mother was Martha Raborn. She died in Mississippi, but had at least three brothers, Henry, Elzy, Joseph, probably others, who moved to Bienville, probably around 1850. After Henry's death, his wife and then grown children all moved to Red River County, TX, where they all spent the rest of their lives. I know there were several other families, McCoy, McGuire, Hudson, and others, who made this move about the same time. They all settled in the same neighborhood in Red River County. I am curious if anyone knows other families who made this move at the same time. This was in the mid 1890s. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful job you are doing on the Bienville Web Page. This is for Robin and anyone else who has an interest in this particular surname. I copied this from microfilm about 15 years ago. I am searching for any type of info on the following people: PETER and RACHEAL HITT FRANKS ASA and NANCY LEWIS CUMMINGS LOW-RODEN-MURPHY
Hi My name is Max Williams. I am primarily searching for information about James Malone Williams, his ancestors and descendents. He was born in SC in about 1821, married Mary Ann Babers in ca 1844 and they moved to Bienville parish in about 1848 with the Babers, Lewis and other families - maybe Pinckney. Does anyone know the list of families who came together? They had several children, John Bunyon, W.H. (Henry?) Ferman S., Martha (maried Albert Bell), Harriet (married Leonard Simmons) and Mary Jane (?) before Mary Ann died in 1861. James Malone remarried Tabitha Carson and had at least two other children - Catherine and James Lewis (my grandfather). James Malone Williams died in 1878. I have received some information on John Bunyon and descendents (from History of Bienville Parish Volume 1) and information about Martha Williams Bell and descendents. I would apprenciate any information on any of these people. Thanks, Max Williams
Hello Imogene, Please post your needed information on the LOW families. There are several researching that surname. Might find some help on the list.
My name is Robin Raburn Clark. I am descended from the family of Louis (or Lewis) Jasper RABURN and Harriett Olivia BRINSON. My grandfather was born in Ringgold in 1898. Olivia BRINSON's (my grandfather's mother) family lived in Bienville Parish for several generations, and some are probably still there. Louis RABURN's father moved there in approximately 1850, he was Hodge RABURN or RABUN, and was sheriff for a while. If anyone knows these families, or knows someone who does, I would love to hear from them. Thank you, Robin
Hi to all, This is a kind of "wake up" call to all the members of the Bienville Parish mailing list. We now have about 38 members and I would like to have you all post to the list as to whom you are looking for.... I know that some listowners don't like "roll calls", and on some of my larger lists I would never consider doing this. But, we are still a small enough "family" that I think it would be beneficial that we do this. You never know, someone just may have that tidbit you've been looking for! My hubby descends from the Hays and Loe families of Liberty Hill. On the Hays side, he is descended from: Charles Hays and Mourning Enochs, John Clark Hays and Mary Ann Clayton, John Clayton Hays and Mary Ann Loe. On the Loe side, he is descended from: Stephen P. Loe and Beady Hedgpeth, Daniel Nicholson Loe and Elizabeth Rentz (Rintz), and Mary Ann Loe and John Clayton Hays. We still own land that has been in the family for generations, so we feel quite a deep connection with his ancestors. Hoping to hear from all of you, Peggy
Just want to let anyone who might interested know, there is a reunion of Louisiana America COLLINSWORTH descendants held each year in the Texarkana Texas area. It is the last Saturday in September each year. I would certainly be interested in expanding it to include any COLLINSWORTH descendant. Please get in touch with me personally, if you would be interested. Thanks, Doris Lindblad
I descend from the COLLINSWORTH/LOE lines, and the JORDAN/COLLINSWORTH lines of Bienville Parish. Orian Moses COLLINSWORTH married Maranza LOE (daughter of Stephen P. and Beady (HEDGPETH) LOE in NC. After moving to Bienville Parish, my greatgrandmother Louisiana America COLLINSWORTH was born to them in 1863.(the 13th child) She married Thomas JORDAN (son of John M and Matilda (HOLDER) JORDAN. My grandmother Willie Eudora JORDAN was born to Thomas & Loula in Bienville Parish in 1882. Loula and her children left Bienville Parish sometime around 1900, moving to Columbia County AR. I don't know what came between she and Thomas, but would like to. Would also like to have any information on the HOLDER line. Thanks, Doris Lindblad I am a proud Rootsweb Sponsor. Please do your part to help!
My g-g-grandfather was Reddick BRYAN. He was born in NC in 1793. He married Elizabeth REGAN, his 2nd wife, in Houston Co.,GA and died in Bienville Parish, LA in 1864. His first wife is thought to be Lilitra or Telitha UNKNOWN. He may have lived in AR for a few years between the move from GA to LA. Information that my father obtained twenty years ago indicates that Reddick was the brother of Miles BRYAN and that there may have been another brother, Tilman.. Hi everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that Lynelle and I have finally finished the complete 1850 census of Bienville Parish, and it is on the web page!! "Finally".. :) I have made an index page to try and make it simple to research. If you have any problems just drop me a note, and I will be glad to help. Lynelle did all the typing, and I did the web paging. And it's finished!! Yeah!! We hope it helps "lots" of researchers find their ancestors. I am taking the liberty of sending this info on Rootsweb to the list. Hopefully every subscriber will see where they can send at least a $12 check as a supporter. If you can afford to send more, please do.I feel that Rootsweb supplies us with a tremendous amount of genealogical information, and we can research the web at our pace and within a timeframe that we individually have. I can't visit my public library or the Family History Center in my town after I get through with a day at work because they are closed. Please consider helping. WHY DOES ROOTSWEB NEED YOUR SUPPORT? by Dr. Brian Leverich <leverich@rootsweb.com> Sometimes it is difficult for users to understand the costs involved in operating RootsWeb and why it is worth genealogists' time and money to support RootsWeb. For example, take the United States census. RootsWeb is currently providing server support to the USGenWeb Archives and Census Projects as they bring the U.S. census online. Our goal is to have both a searchable index to the census *AND* images of all the pages available on an open basis for all Internet genealogists. Our best estimate is that bringing the census online will require about 3.6 terabytes of data storage. That means we will need about 200 18 GB hard disks, and each of those disks costs about $1,000. That means the data storage alone is going to cost $200,000, and that doesn't include the servers and the bandwidth to make that storage accessible over the Web. Is $200,000 a lot of money? Well, sort of. Regardless of how much they want to help, Karen and Brian couldn't pay for that even if they mortgaged their house and cashed in their pension savings. On the other hand, $200,000 is only about 67 cents per user at RootsWeb. That is about 1/100 of what some commercial firms are charging for data they have locked up in members-only areas. Bringing the U.S. census online is not the only project RootsWeb supports. We are hosting literally hundreds of other data projects, some American and many for other countries (like the British FreeBMD Project). If all (or even if most) of our users were contributors, there is a lot RootsWeb could be doing to accelerate the rate at which public records are brought online and opened to the public. You can help us bring those records online. For details about support levels/benefits and payment options, visit <http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html> or send e-mail to <RW-info@rootsweb.com>. Just found on USGenWeb that Stephen P Loe was the Senior Deacon in Troy Masonic Lodge # 56 in Pike County, AL in 1844-1845. Jesse W. Loe was Secretary during that same time period.
