    1. [LABIENVI-L] Hortman death record
    2. Judy Reed
    3. I recently wrote to the list about my inability to find a death record for my great grandfather, William Henry Hortman who died in 1920. I asked for tips on how to get both cemetary and marriage records. Many thanks to all of you who wrote back with some great tips on where else to look for information. Kudos to Carolyn who told me not to give up with the state records office but to have them try different combinations of his name. That triggered me to remember that at times I have seen Hortman misspelled as Hartman so I called the records office and Voila! They found the death record under William Henry Hartman. The lady there that helped me was very nice and said that in the future when requesting a record to put down the different ways it might be spelled. Although she had looked under other spellings on the same microfilm, she had not thought to look at Hartman, which was on another microfilm. Bless all of you who have been so very helpful and pointed me in the right direction. thanks Judy

    1. [LABIENVI-L] HORTMAN buried in Bistineau Cemetary
    2. Judy Reed
    3. My great grandparents were William Henry Hortman, born 1852 in Bossier Parish, and Laura Ann WILKERSON, born 1860 in Bienville Parish. They married in 1878 in Bienville Parish, according to Marriage Book D, page 103. I live in Michigan and am wondering how would I go about getting a copy of their marriage certificate or application for marriage? Does the parish have something on file or would I only be able to get a copy of the page in the marriage book? William Henry Hortman was living in Caddo Parish when he died in 1920, but was buried in Bistineau Cemetary, Bienville Parish. I recently applied for a copy of his death certificate from the state but received a notice that they had no record of his death. I called and talked to them and they gave me the number for Caddo Parish and they had no records there but suggested I check for succession papers which I am going to do. I would also like to check the cemetary for records since several Hortmans are buried there (I have a listing from the Bienville Parish site). Does Bistineau cemetary keep records on the people buried there? Could someone give me the address? Bistineau isn't listed in the cemetaries on the Genealogical Mapping part of the Bienville site. Also any other suggestions would be appreciated. thank you, Judy reedjl@wingsisp.com

    1. [LABIENVI-L] Mixons
    2. Jerry Gallagher
    3. I have found our Mixon's in two cemeteries! My son and I took a ride down there today and found the Friendship Cemetery and located O Z Mixon. A very nice woman living next door not only knew where the other Mixon's were buried but she was related also! Her mother met us at the Gansville cemetery and went right to the other tombstones that we needed. One was in the Friendship cemetery and the others were in the Gansville cemetery (Winn Parish). What a great day. Thanks to all who helped me put the pieces together! Jerry Gallagher aileron@tcainternet.com

    3. Marilyn, Thank so much but these don't ring a bell. The Mixon's may be in one of these but I would not want you to go looking if I can't recognize the name of the cemetery. Some of the Mixon names are Ben H. Mixon, Alma Stewart Mixon, O. Z. Mixon, and Alonzo Mixon. One of my sources says they were buried in Friendship and another near Gansville. Where is Gansville in relation to Friendship? Jerry

    3. Hi Listers, Although I do not normally post virus warnings to the list, I wanted all of you to know that there appears to be an onslaught of virus and worms "floating" around at this time. Please, folks, be very careful of opening attachments that may come with your email. If you see any attachments that use ".exe" after the name, contact the sender and ask if they have sent you an attachment. If they have not, then, delete the message immediately! Reading the email won't give you the virus or worm, but, the attachment will. Some of the worms and virus can make it look as if it has come from a friend or from a website that you visit. Please know that RootsWeb does not accept any attachments, therefore, you can not get any of this from being on the mailing lists. Visit http://www.mcafee.com or http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/index.html for a list of new worms and such and try and keep your virus software updated. My best to all of you in this Holiday Season, Peggy

    3. Hi Everyone, I don't remember who I was talking to a few months back, but they wanted a picture of DR. PICK COLLINSWORTH. I have my scanner fixed now, and will be happy to send it to anyone who wants a copy of this picture. I also have a picture of Dave Collinsworth, husband of my grandmother, Evie Irean Rowell Stevenson Collinsworth. The only thing written on this photo is "Dr. Pick Collinsworth". Let me know who you are. I have come down with "old timers disease" again!!! ;-) Happy Holidays to all! Markie

    1. [LABIENVI-L] SCOTT - BANE
    2. Jackie Wiltcher
    3. I am seeking information for Sulon or possibly Hulon SCOTT that married Mary Francis "Molly" BANE about 1917-1922. The writing on a document that I have is not easy to read but it looks as if the first letter is an "S". This couple had 2 daughters, Annie and Jessie. Later, about 1923 , Molly Bane SCOTT married my grandfather Houston Long in Bienville Parish. I do not know the facts but I do believe that the reason Molly remarried was because Sulon (?) SCOTT may have died . If someone has any information about these individuals please contact me. I have made several attempts to research my grandmother Molly Bane Scott LONG but I have not had any luck..........mainly because my information is VERY limited. The only leads that I have on Molly is that she had 2 brothers Wesley and Walter and her father's name was Bud Bane. Molly Bane Scott Long died about 1930 when my mother was 2 1/2 yrs old and my mother would like to know more about Molly and her family. I realize that I have posted 3 surnames on the SCOTT forum but I am interested in ALL surnames that connect to my family. Especially since I have deep roots in Beinville and its surrounding parishes. Happy Holidays, Mike Wiltcher Bridgeport,Tx.

    2. I've been told that this email did not make it to some of the lists. I wanted to put this offer out there for anyone who might need it, so I'm trying again to send it.... Subj: Kentucky lookups.... To all in the Louisiana mailing lists. I am far enough away from La. that it is difficult for me to get down there very often. Therefore, I greatly appreciate the assistance that the list members have given me. They have enabled me to locate four more generations on my greatgrandmother's side of the family, and that is no small accomplishment to me. I live in Louisville, Kentucky, and we have some excellent resources for Kentucky genealogical research. I frequently go down to the main library and the Filson Club (a historical society here), and I would be glad to look up Kentucky links for people on these lists. Just email me with your requests and give me some time to do the legwork, and I will try to return something back to these mailing lists. Thanks again for everyone's help... Ray Holloway
