Posted on: Bienville Parish Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/La/Bienville?read=486 Surname: ------------------------- It sounds as if your relative was black. My relatives are all white around this time. They did have slaves that I have listed in my database. I just can't figure out how to pull them out and post them to the net. Surely, their descendants would want to know about them. Unfortunately. they are only listed by first name in wills and deed. One of my relatives did "run off" with one of his father's slaves who is said to have been a "beautiful maulatto from Orleans" I'm pretty sure that started a leg of our black Bailiff's around 1900. The Bailiff were plantation owners and I believe the Watson's were the ship masters. The Bailiff's migrated from Va in 1600's to Orange county, NC in the 1700's and then Alabama, TN in the early 1800's. I did pick up a family in Bienville, LA around 1850 in the land records. Linda
Posted on: Bienville Parish Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/La/Bienville?read=485 Surname: BAILEY, SMITH, JACKSON, BUCKNER, THOMAS, WADE, CRAIN ------------------------- My great uncle William"Bill" Bailey was hung in Arcacia, Bienville Parish around 1909. Oliver Drinkwater-Bailey was Choctaw indian from Alabame and his wife Elsey Ghent-Wells-Bailey was originally from Ghana, West Africa. The name Ghent is from the Ashanti people of Ghana. She was taken from Ghana to Port of Spain, Trinidad and she came to the Port of New Orleans on a slaving ship. She was bought by then Governor of Louisiana James Madison Wells and his family in Rapides Parish. I am trying for find any information on why William "Bill" Bailey was hung because nobody in the family living has ever heard of this Bill Bailey. My family members has been in Louisiana since the 1840's. Oliver got to Louisiana with is family on the forced relocation of the Choctaw, Cherokee, Creek, Chicksaw, Seminole Indians on what is known as the "Trail of Tears". Oliver had a sister named Margret Bailey and she was Choctaw Indian and they lived in Bienville & Claiborne Parishs.

Could your Will be one of my Williams? What information do you have on a lynching? The Bailiff family started in VA and Orange county, NC. They split up and went to TN, IL and IA.
