Hi Everyone, I wanted to let everyone know that Nell and I have added SPRINGHILL CEMETERY, eight miles southwest of Ringgold, and MT. LEBANON CEMETERY, 2 1/2 miles from Gibsland, (part one) to the Bienville Parish Cemeteries Web page. We are trying to update all of the pages as fast as our little fingers will type! <G> I'm am going to add a "LINK" page for anyone who has a home page with Bienville Parish ancestors. If you have a page you would like for me to add, please e-mail me with the URL. Thanks, Markie Co-ordinator of Bienville Parish LaGenWeb Page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~labienvi/ Home Page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Flats/1118/index.htm

Hi Doris, Here are the Collinsworth's that are in the Friendship Cemetery per Eva Loe McDuffie's book. This book was researched in the 50's, 60's, and early 70's. The following was copied by Mrs. Alvin Barron: Collinsworth, Allen Thomas 1881-1949 Julia Robinson 1886-1945 Collinsworth, Henry Tyson 12-24-1874 12-18-1945 Collinsworth, Betty Eldrige 02-14-1884 11-19-1920 Collinsworth, Maud 03-27-1887 03-03-1919 (daughter of OM & TE Collinsworth and wife of JW Horne) Collinsworth, Robert Easley 4-5-1892 4-16-1907 (son of OM & TE Collinsworth) Collinsworth, Henry Franklin 10-06-1884 6-11-1898 (son of OM & ET Collinsworth) Collinsworth, Virginia 11-06-1923 11-13-1943 Collinsworth, Dr. A.P. 03-10-1823 02-21-1906 Collinsworth, Belle Hood 01-20-1850 04-01-1916 Collinsworth, Dotia 02-20-1866 04-29-1924 (wife of OM Collinsworth) Collinsworth, Mattie S. 1868-1938 Hope this clears things up a bit. I did go to this cemetery, as there are quite a few Loe's buried here. I remember that there were a lot of Collinsworth's buried there as I recognized the last name....knowing that Maranza had married OM.... Peggy
Dear Peggy, Thank you for the additional information on JAMES & MARIA BARRON's family. Shirley
Hi Doris, Did some checking, and New Providence Cemetery is in Ringgold, therefore, is not the same as Friendship. Peggy
Hi Doris, I've only known it as Friendship Baptist Cemetery, I've been to it and it has the name on it. I don't know, though, if it used to be known as Providence. Have you compared other names between the 2 cemetaries? If all the names are the same, then, it must have been known as Providence at one time, or it's a "typo". (Put the wrong list on the Providence page.) If there are only a few of the Collinsworth names in there, then I would venture to *guess* that possibly the family had a memorial type stone put there with other deceased family members, even though their loved ones are buried elsewhere. I have seen that with my family. Let me know what you find, Peggy
Hi Peggy, These cemetery books show the locations as you stated. Don't know what has happened. Guess I will have to locate a more recent canvass of the cemeteries or see if I can locate newspapers microfilmed somewhere. Have no idea that they have been archived. Other than that, guess I will hang in limbo on those until I can either make a trip to LA or find someone else who has been there and listed these COLLINSWORTH clans. Thanks again for your help. Doris
Hi Peggy & Doris, I talked with Doris a little while ago on having some Collinsworth information. Lynelle, my sister-in-law, copied these pages several years back since my grandmother married a Collinsworth. I dug out the pages that Lynelle copied and discovered that my father's half brothers, are from your line of Collinsworths and Loe as follows: Orin M. Collinsworth and Maranza Loe... their son: John Franklin Collinsworth and Elizabeth Thomas....their son: David Thomas Collinsworth and Evie Irean Rowell Stevenson (my grandmother)... their sons: Henry & James Collinsworth (half brothers to my father) Leonard Roy Stevenson. Nell, do you remember where you copied this info from? It lists the third son of Orin M. and Maranza as Dr. Andrew Pickens Collinsworth, b. 1846. I have a picture of Dr. Andrew. My uncle James gave it to me, and the only thing written on it is "Dr. Pick Collinsworth".. I'm not sure which lines ya'll are from, but if you would like a copy of this picture I will be happy to send you one. Nell and I are working to upload as many Bienville Parish cemeteries as we can. Dave Thomas and Evie Irean Stevenson Collinsworth are buried at Bistineau Cemetery along with: Collinsworth, Brian W.---12/05//1866---07/25/1937 Collinsworth, George J. Jr---02/16/1927---09/01/1938 Collinsworth, infant son---09/25/1926---09/25/1926 Collinsworth, Lilla Pate---08/09/1875---05/01/1907 Collinsworth, Mary A. Ray---03/28/1875---03/18/1913 Collinsworth, Thomas Ray---12/22/1941---02/01/1942 There is more information in these pages, but I don't know which lines you are working on or how far back you are... let me know, and we can compare notes. Have just located a major problem with the information in the Bienville Parish Cemetery Books that I bought from J & W Enterprises. (Don't mean to infer that it is their problem). I have just noted a few of my COLLINSWORTH names being listed in more than one cemetery, i.e, Providence and Friendship Baptist. Are these one and the same cemetery known by two names? HELP!!!!!! Thanks, Doris

Hi Shirley, I can't really help much with the Hodges family, but I do have info on the family of James Barron & Maria Raborn. They had the following children: Bertie Irene b ? m Austin Harris Miller d 4 Jan 1943 James Cleveland b 1884 m Theo Docia Loe in 1909 Edward m Addie Butler Harmon m Fannie Oden Horace m Angie Kennedy Mattie never married Cloma never married Laurice m Emily Cummings Best Wishes, Peggy
My great-grandmother, ZILLA ANN (DAVIS) HODGES, died at Sparta, Bienville Parish, on 9 February 1882. I have not been able to find her burial site and would greatly appreciate help in locating her grave. ZILLA's husband, JAMES MADISON HODGES, died in Winn Parish about 1875. In the 1870 U.S. census, JAMES & ZILLA were recorded living in the Pine Ridge postal area of Winn Parish. I do not know where JAMES MADISON was buried. Were they buried in the same place or separately? Any clues about this couple would be greatly appreciated. Shirley B. Alexander
My great aunt, MELISSA D. HODGES (1852-1880), married JAMES L. BARRON (1856-1926) about 1873. They had three known children: JAMES T. (1874-1883), ALLIE ANN (1878-1879) and HENRY LEE (1879-1880). After MELISSA died, JAMES married MARIA T. RABORN (1862-1918). JAMES and MARIA had one known son, JAMES C. (1884-1967). MELISSA D. HODGES was the daughter of JAMES MADISON and ZILLAH ANN (DAVIS) HODGES, my great-grandparents, who were living in Winn Parish in the 1870s. MELISSA's son, JAMES T., survived her and inherited from his grandparents' estate and died in the same year, 1883. I am interested in corresponding with anyone who could provide more information about the HODGES family. Shirley B. Alexander
Hello Shirley, I checked the Cemetery Books, Vol 1, 2, and 3. Found a B W HODGES in Friendship Baptist Cemetery and in Carolina Baptist Cemetery are listed the following HODGES; Hattie, Henry Carr, JF, JG, Lula R, Ruth, and WM. All have been buried since 1911. If these might be of help, let me know and I will post the complete information as it is written.
<Since Martha Owen, Lynelle Stevenson and I practically tied in asking for Bienville Parish, we are all going to do it together.> Great job!! Keep up the good work. I will be visiting often. Hi David, Just checked the cemetery listings for MARKHAM. Found one in Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery, but he is not the one you are looking for; MARKHAM, Fred Wilburn, born 02/12/1917, died 01/27/1988 I did find the following UPSHAW, in New Liberty Hill Cemetery; UPSHAW, Baby ( 4 different ones and no dates at all) Bettye G born 1876 died 1928 John A born 1874 died 1939 In Holder Cemetery; UPSHAW, Annie Bell Jordan, born 11/11/1909 Charles E born 02/22/1931 died 06/30/1952 Henry J 07/24/1893 06/09/1984 James S 11/04/1905 11/25/1950 Mary G 08/02/1933 no date Ruby J 04/17/1912 06/13/1980 In Liberty Hill - North of Church UPSHAW, Jim F born 12/22/1898 died 02/18/1978 Doesn't appear that any of these are the ones you might be looking for. Time frame is not close enough. Maybe Claiborne Parish would be a good place to look.
