>From Randy Willis www.randywillis.org randy@randywillis.org There is a Willis Perkins listed (household 641) in the 1850 Rapides Parish Census (age 60), born in South Carolina. Other early Perkins, found in 1850 Rapides Parish and born in South Carolina are: Nancy (age 60), Elizabeth (age55), Isaac (age 61), Mary (age 53), Lewis (age 57), Margaret (age 48), Louis (age 24), and Mary Ann (age 18). The point of this is that this is an extremely large number of Perkins (for this period of time located in one parish) from the same state, South Carolina. A Willis Perkins is also listed as a member of Occupy Church (1843) at the same time Rev. Joseph's was pastor there. The early Louisiana Willis/Perkins connections have not been fully explored. Perhaps this will lead to Lucinda Willis Perkins. An early Louisiana Baptist Historian (1810) wrote that the Perkins came to Bayou Chicot, in 1805, with Rev. Joseph Willis. Other Willis/Perkins, 1850 Rapides Parish, relationships are Lemuel Willis (1812) (household 657) married Emeline/Eveline Perkins. The Lucinda West (household 649) (age 19 and married to William West) listed in the 1850 census is probably the daughter of Sally Willis. Sally is listed in the same household (age 48). In 1850 (household 301), Eliza Ann Perkins (age 38), list a 14 year old daughter named Lucinda. In 1859 (household 578), Olive Perkins (age 48), list a 15 year old daughter named Lucinda.

Check and see if there are other surnames like theirs around them. This could be family! Then you would check and see if these families were there in 1870 census for the area and check and see if there is a William and Florence in their respective families at the age they would be 10 years earlier. Kim

I wrote to Natchitoches and received a copy of their marriage certificate. William and Florence were married on January 22, 1880. The witnesses (if I can read the writing) were: Elizabeth Clark, H. H. Biggs, and J. M. Orsborn. Robert M. Blocker, Minister of the Gospel. Thanks for the other info---I will follow up on doing that. I do need the death certificates. Do not know where they are buried, either. Thanks, again, Kim. Brenda

The Simmons were in the Natchez District near Coles Creek around the 1790s and then most of them moved to the Louisiana area with the Coles and Foremans and some other families around 1810. Unfortunately, it is a pretty common name too and may not connect to ours! Wish I had my things, but until then, did your grandparents die after 1920? Have you tried to get a Death Certificate for them? (Also check and see if Greene Simmons has one.) Do you know where they are buried? Have you inquired about a Marriage License in the surrounding parishes? You might try these things until I get my stuff back. Kim

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VCB.2ACI/38.70.77.1.1 Message Board Post: Kim, Thank you so much for your reply. I am fairly new at this "genealogy" thing but have been lucky so far in finding a good bit of information on my mother's dad's side of the family and also on her mother's side. Now my father's side is a different story! All that I know about my great grandparents is that their names were Florence P. Simmons, born in February, 1866, in Mississippi, and William Beauregard Cobb was born in June, 1863, in Louisiana. Florence's parents were born in Mississippi and William's parents were born in Georgia. This is information that I have obtained from the Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana 1900 Census. Also listed on the Census was Greene Simmons (bother to Florence living with them at that time) and listed as his date of birth as April, 1879, in Louisiana. Just thought that I would take a "stab in the dark" when I e-mailed you since there was a Simmons and Green/Greene connection. It is possible that Greene was named for someone in the family w! ith the surname of Green. Also, you had mentioned DeRidder and that was where my dad was born. Stay on the lookout for me and if you come across anything, please let me know. Thanks, again, for your speedy reply. Brenda
