1. Louisiana Family Group Sheets
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VCB.2ACI/440 Message Board Post: I'm happy to announce a new Special Project, the Louisiana Family Group Sheet (FGS) project. It's my privilege to be managing it, and I hope to be very busy adding family group sheets submitted by all of you. The URL for the page is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/louisiana/ I think you'll find the page easy to read and use, but if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. The USFGS home page, http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/ links to all the states that have a family group project. I hope you'll take advantage of this new project. Those of us who have been working to bring it to Louisiana are very excited about its possibilities. Any family group that lived in Louisiana, even for a short time, can be posted. THE ONLY LOUISIANAN'S WHO CANNOT BE POSTED ARE THOSE WHO ARE LIVING. Each family group sheet provides space for basic information about father, mother, and children; so if you only know about one family unit, you know enough to put the information up. If you know more, you can add more family group sheets: the father's parents and siblings, the mother's parents and siblings, the children's spouses and children, and on and on. If you've traced the family on into Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi, you can post your group sheet in those states as well as Louisiana. But just one family sheet in one state can be enough to make new and exciting connections. We've prepared the pages and forms, added search engines and links, and now it's in your hands. Send in your family group sheets. One a day, ten a day, one a week, whatever works for you. Tell your fellow researchers about the site. Talk about it at your next genealogical society meeting. Mention it in your emails. The more people hear about the site, the more contributions we're likely to get; and the more contributions we receive, the more valuable the project is going to be in helping you make family connections. I'll be waiting for your family to turn up in my mailbox!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VCB.2ACI/439 Message Board Post: I hope someone can help me. I'm tracing my grandmother's family. Her name was Leona Estelle Smith, b. 10/2/1913 in Fields, LA. Her parents were Thomas Elton (Tom) Smith and Siddie Creel Smith. I have found the family in the 1920 census in Beauregard Parish. Tom Smith was born in LA (I think Vernon). His father was Melton Smith. Tom, Siddie and Leona moved to Texas, but Tom came back to LA for a visit and died there approximately November of 1927. If anyone can help me with birth records for any of these folks, I would be so grateful. I have no information on Siddie except for her name and would like to find birth records, death records, cemetary, etc. Thanks in advance. Denise Green Oppenhagen

I am one of the eldest of 24 Grandchildren by Jessie Belle McGlon and Daniel Thomas Leavines of Baldwin County, Alabama. My Dad and his 3 brothers came to New Orleans in 1924 when my Grandfather died. I do not know if your father is related. The 4 boys were Fredrick Luther, Thomas, my dad John and Edward, the youngest. It is quite possible that my Grandfather had atleast one brother, Uncle John. I know that there was an Uncle John, however, I am not sure if he was from Grandpa's side or Grandma's. Try doing some investigating in the Baldwin County, Alabama archives because the Leavines Family settled there from Boston around 1863. If that is of no help go to the Boston archives because that is where my Grandfather was born and his Father was a doctor. There is bound to be some record of the Leavines Family in Boston and maybe you can work from there. Hope you find what you! are looking for. Lynn Leavines Norwood

It is a very small town just on the LA & TX statelines. There isn't a whole lot going on there in terms of growth. It's a nice little town with friendly folks. My mother was born there and my great-aunt lived there until her death in 1994. I go through the town occasionally. I just haven't seen much growth commercially or residential. Hope that helps some.

Yes, Merryville and Bivens were saw mill towns - until they sawed all of them down. Now, hybrid pine trees are grown and harvested like corn. Wild animals, once abundant and then virtually eliminated with dogs and over-hunting, are gradually returning.

    1. Beauregard Parish Web site
    2. Hello Listers, Spent a wonderful week in DeRidder two weeks ago. What a wonderful first time visit. Met a lot of really wonderful people. Have come to the conclusion that I am related by blood or marriage to nearly all of the early peoples of Beauregard Parish. Took pictures of Shiloh, Sugartown, and Woodlawn Cemeteries. Shiloh and Sugartown are now on line. Woodlawn will be up sometime in the next week or two. Also purchased "History of Beauregard Parish" and the "DeRidder The First Hundred Years" these are both still available at the Chamber of Commerce and at Mackie's Jewelry Store (See books and addresses for where these are located)...... Also visited the Beauregard Parish Museum.....what a wonderful time there.....Jody Mallory is the curator and is a very helpful person. The highlight of the trip was meeting my new "adopted daughter" Cindy Prince.........what a gal!!! She was a great help, and made the trip fun and informative. Make a note: Cindy is willing to do look-ups in the courthouses in DeRidder and in Lake Charles......just be as specific as possible OK. She is going to be an invaluable addition to our look up volunteers. Here's hoping that all of you will come and visit and check out the new information that I brought home from our trip. For those of you who haven't checked out the site.... http://www.rootsweb.com/~labeaure/beaurega.htm Be sure and bookmark the site, and check back often. Your Parish Volunteer Coordinator, Sharon Pierce
