The death certificate for William Daniel Bailey indicates that his father was Tom Bailey. My living uncle says that William Daniel Bailey had 7 children, all born in Dry Creek, LA: Ella, Elmer, Joe (my grandfather), Gladys, James, Tommy (died at age 16), and Odessa. My uncle also said that William Bailey had a brother, Riley, and twin sisters who supposedly lived to be over 100 years old and never married. My uncle futhermore recalls that William Bailey was a tobacco grower and bootlegger in the 1920's - '30s, then turned preacher for the last 5 years of his life. He also said that Emma Simmons was about 4' -10" and her family was well known in DeRidder.

An Alexander Hill who married a Martha Box in Itawamba Co, MS lived next door to my grgrgrandparents, Nicholas and Jane Hill Horn, on the Itawamba Co census of either 1850 or 1860. I am researching this family also. I know Abel Hill, married to Leah Lee, appears on the Wayne Co, TN census of 1820. I would like to have any of your info after they went to LA and/or TX in the late 1860s so that we may be able to firmly establish the connection, etc.

I have a gr-gr grandmother named Jane Hill Horne. An Alexander Hill who married a Martha Box lived near them on the 1850 census of Itawamba Co, MS. I believe Alexander was my grandmother's brother, perhaps a twin as they both say they were born in 1825 in TN. It is reported Alexander and his father, Abel Hill who was on the 1820 Wayne Co, TN census, went with their families to Sugartown, LA in the late 1860s. I am trying to discover more about this family. Anything you have to tell would be appreciated!

I'm descended from WILLIAM SANDERS born about 1829 h/o SARAH ELAINE COWARD. WILLIAM SANDERS' father was JOHN SANDERS born 1790 h/o MARY. In the early 1800's a Wm. Sanders came from South Carolina and a settlement Sandersville was named for him. Since the population was small, I'm assuming this Wm. Sanders was a relative of mine. My WILLIAM SANDERS was probably too young to have been the one named in the History of Beauregard Parish. I'd appreciate any info. Isaac Hardy Coward was an early resident too; he was the grandfather of Sarah Elaine Coward d/o RICHARD ADDISON COWARD & ELEANOR HENDERSON. ELEANOR HENDERSON must have died at SARAH'S birth or soon afterward. Some family lineages leave SARAH off the list of their children. I'd appreciate any info or documentation that would prove that SARAH ELAINE was the d/o RICHARD ADDISON COWARD & ELEANOR HENDERSON. Family Bibles list them as her parents and family history. June
Dear Susie, I can't thank you enough. June

I wasn't able to open www.archivesindex.sc.gov today. I've been having wonderful luck with it. I'm sorry if it's not working. June
To those of you in Beauregard Parish who do research in SC, (O'Quinn, Coward, Henderson, Sanders, etc) the following e-mail site is very good. You can put in a name or location; if it's in the Archives in Columbia, SC a list of the documents with notes and where they can be found are listed. I went to the archives this summer; they were wonderful. It is: www.archivesindex.sc.gov June
