Believe to be son of Achilles and Susan Debate. I am trying to find out if he was ever married or involved with an Alice Marshall from Virginia. They had two children Dorothy in 1921 and Thelma in 1923. I know he went on to marry a Bernice Harbaugh in 1925 and had some children. Can anyone help? I don't know if this will help, any A Mrs Lottie Mayeux, a childhood friend of mine is the secetary at the Little Flower Church in Evergreen, La. She may be able to help you. Next--I was born on March 30, 1938 in Long bridge a part of Cottonport and i remember that the only Canal in Cottonport is Bayou De Glasie...It is a very shallow bayou and has several crossing across it to reach the nicer homes on the other side. It flows at about 2 miles per hour and has no undertow. It parrells the state highway, that is more or less the Main Street. As a child in the early forty's we used to go crawfishing in Bayou De Glasise, In Cottonport, and also in Longbridge as well. I now live in California. He married Ethel Deshotels, born 03 Nov 1919, in St. Landry Parish. They had two children Leo Paul Thibodeaux, born 18 Nov 1938 in Avoyelles Parish, and Barbara Estelle Thibodeaux (my mother) born 10 Jun 1940, in Avoyelles Parish. Charles Thibodeaux died June 23, 1942 in Cottonport, crossing a canal on a horse - horse threw him - he was caught in an undertow and drowned. I am looking for any info on him or his parents, siblings, etc. I went to State Archives and retrieved my grandfather's death certificate and it contained the names of his parents. Since my mom was only two when her father died, she doesn't remember her grandparents. The certificate lists (Abrah, Abram?) Thibodeaux, born in Louisiana as his father and (Duplichias?) as his mother, born in Louisiana. I don't know if this was her maiden name or her first name. No birth info on either one of them. Any help here? My grandfather was buried in a Catholic church cemetery in Goudeaux. His priest's name was Father Prevost or Provost. Can anyone give me a list of Catholic churches with cemeteries located in Goudeaux? Thanks for any help, and thanks for taking the time to read this. Just in case you never got a reply, I will tell you what I know. 1) On July 3, 1749,in Quebec, Joseph Marie Harmond, son of Francois-Rolin and Jeanne Dupuy, of the St. Martin diocese of Metz, Lorraine, married Cecile Normand. Source: Dictionnaire Genealogique des Famille Canadiennes by Cyprien Tanguay, Vol.4, pg 466. In the same source, vol. 6, pg 160, Cecile, born 1727, is listed as the third child of Pierre Normand and Marguerite LeHays. 2) Cecile and Joseph Marie had seven children, three girls and four boys, between March of 1750 and September 1757. The source for this is on the internet, baptismal records from the fortress of Louisbourg, where Joseph Marie was a soldier. 3)In January of 1769, their second daughter, Marie Magdeleinne, was married to Gabriel Lamathe in Pointe Coupee, Louisiana. At that time, Cecile was deceased. Source: Baton Rouge Diocese Records, vol. 1, p 137. 4) On September 14, 1775, Joseph Marie married Marie Theresa Legros in Pointe Coupee. Source: BR Diocese Records, vol. 2, p 29. 5)Joseph Marie and Marie Theresa had at least six children, four boys and two girls. 6) Joseph Marie died February 15, 1815. He was buried in the cemetery of St. Francois des Natchitoches in Louisiana. He was about 92 years old. At that time, he left a widow, Marie Theresa, one daughter and three sons. He also left two sons and three daughters from his first marriage. He died of fever. Source: BR Diocese Records. I hope this helps and gives you some added information. Introduction by Winston De Ville, FASG. Michel Papillon was the patriarch of one of the most distinguished Creole families in the Americas. He was born into slavery at Poste de Saint Jean Baptiste des Natchitoches in the northwestern quadrant of present-day Louisiana. This first edition provides thirteen full-color plates of his manumission papers in facsimile. The unique document is not translated from its original Spanish and French. As the introduction states, "In nearly a half-century of reading thousands of colonial documents, this writer has never seen another like it. Ordinary acts of emancipation are fairly brief, written pro forma, perfunctorily, signed by the erstwhile slave-owner, the commandant, and perhaps two witnesses." In addition to unusual length, the Papillon papers are signed by numerous leading citizens of Natchitoches and Opelousas. First edition, January 2004. 26 pages. No index. Item no. MP2. $3! 3.50 *********************************************************** 1794 Dec. 23 Morandiere, Estevan de la (Avoyelles) to Baron de Carondelet (New Orleans) De la Morandiere states: 1. That he informed the Baron about the conduct of Mr. Badins on three different occasions: a) First, through Mr. Francisco Hernand, a merchant of the River; b) second, through Mr. Miguel Pampalon, an inhabitant of this post; c) finally, through Mr. Duparc. Thus the Baron will have the opportunity to know the violent, turbulent and insubordinate spirit of Mr. Badins who has just added to his delinquencies that of having escaped from prison. De la Morandiere does not know where he may be, despite all attempts to catch him. 2. That Mr. Badins was induced to this last action by the indiscreet propositions stated publicly by Father Delvaux in the main port of the Colorado river where there were the merchants Reinaud, Nicollet and Rebecqui with all their employees, and before many other people of the post. 3. That these propositions of a priest have made a very bad impression on the spirit of many inhabitants who have shown themselves after that less zealous than before. 4. That these facts oblige him to notify the Baron that Badins has secretly spread in this post the rumor that the colony would soon belong to France and that then he would enjoy freedom. To this statement he added many others of the same nature. 5. De la Morandiere will always prevent his attempts, and to this end he is going to embark provisionally the goods of Badins and have them under the custody of two individuals who will answer for Badins' person until the Baron orders otherwise.
