To this day family members are using Littleton as the middlename for the first born son in our family. I feel sure that they must be honoring a Littleton ancestor. The first one to do so that I have documented was Andrew Littleton Kerr's parents. He was born in 1829 in Chariton Co.,Mo. His mother Martha M. Blue was from Ky. and his father D.James A. Kerr was born 1805 in Va. There is an area of Va. named Littleton, but I do not know that they were ever in that area. I do have other ancestors from Avoyelles Parish and Point Coupee Parish---but I do not know of a connection with the Kerr/Littleton/Bell family? It was just a coincidence that I saw the Littleton question while I was searching for Wilson,Lewis,Hagewood,Martin,Crenshaw,Killebrew,Fatheree, Roberts,Conrad roots in the area. However, if you know of a connection with my Kerr,Bell, family to the Littletons please let me know. Sincerely, Karen Moore Kerr Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. One of their neighbors said yesterday that their fathers are brothers with the same mother. Rocoffort does not know whether this is true but he asks for the necessary dispensation which he will not use unless it seems indispensable and to avoid scandal. St. Landry parish is quiet. The Father (Simon) Rominger affair is forgotten. Everyone seems indifferent to what goes on in the church. Rocoffort holds strictly to the instruction given by the president of the college. He makes no visits or missions. He is ready to serve when asked. *********************************************************** Augustin Séverin [Agustín Severino] MATHÉO - quarteron libre wa> born c. 1806. Blanc represents that St. André is the tutor of Irma Mattes, minor child of the late Sévérin and Marie Ramono Mattes. Blanc claimsthat, with St. André's "consent and authorization," Irma was placed under "his care and protection" and she lived in his household from the 7th of June 1853 until the 7th of July 1855. He estimates that the expense incurred in boarding, lodging and clothing Irma amounts to $8 per month over the course of two years and one month. He charges that, although he has "incurred considerable trouble and expense in the bringing up and support" of Irma, St. André has refused to compensate him. Vital Blanc therefore seeks an order condemning St. André to pay the $200. Her eldest son was Gaulden Leonard Smith, Sr. (b 1888) of Natchitoches, Louisiana; Sr.'s younger child was Gaulden Leonard Smith, Jr. (b 1926); and I am Jr.'s elder son (b 1957). Gaulden Sr. did in fact have a brother named Charles, in addition to about three younger siblings (as I remember, whose mother was not Mary Louise.) I never met Charles but do know that he was still alive in the 1970's and living in New Orleans. Unfortunately, I know virtually nothing else about Mary Louise or her family.
