    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: SandraCrouch51 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.louisiana.parishes.avoyelles/143.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I think there is some confusion. My grandparents were Alfred Mayeux and Eva Roy Mayeux, who had one child, Verlee (note spelling), my mother, born September 5,1929 (still living). I believe my grandfather was born in 1903 and had numerous brothers and sisters. Alfred never went by the name "Jeff" as far as I know. I am certain he never married anyone other than Eva Roy, as they were married until his death in 1975. Eva died in 2005. Both are buried at Lakelawn Mauseleum in Metairie, LA. I believe there must have been more than one Alfred Mayeux in Avoyelles at that time, and that the previous post is confusing several of them. There is a Verna Mae still living, her husband Isaiah died a few years back and they have a daughter named Henrietta. There was also a sister or cousin named Artie P. Gilbert. She married Joseph P. Author: Ladytrucker59 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.louisiana.parishes.avoyelles/1080.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If you were to get a copy of the marriage record from courthouse the information would be the same. From the church, which one, it would have the civil marriage and the blessed marriage. I did a quick search on several St. Paul marriage's and they are correct. But it is possible your's has an error. One would be the civil and the other a blessing of the civil. For my reference source I use both. My thoughts and bet's would be the first marriage is correct if there is a contradiction with the civil marriage at the blessing. Times were hard and they had a tendency to forget dates. Nonetheless if you sent for the records that's the proof and either would be valid. Ellen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Both were born in 1871 and did several months apart (sometime between 1900-1910) They had four children: Ola, Clara Mavis, Nova Ennis, and Robert Lee. They were known to live in the following areas in Louisiana: Sabine Parish, St Landry Parish, Bunkie in Avoyelles Parish, and Alexandria in Rapides Parish. 3. Both Brides Book and Church Book are correct in the marriage date of Marceline Mayeux and Jean Baptiste Jeansonne. The earlier date, March 17, 1829, is the date of their civil marriage as recorded in the courthouse records. The later date, June 21, 1830, is the date of their Catholic marriage in which the priest blesses the civil marriage. This is explained in the last paragraph of the marriage, St. Paul's Early Marriage Records, page 122. Incidentally, I have only one child listed for them, but no date of birth for Marceline. I do have a date of baptism for Jean Baptiste but no dates of death nor burial for either of them. Would you share info with me on this family? ----- Original Message ----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com To: LAAVOYEL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, March 15, 2008 12:47 AM Subject: [LAAVOYEL] Brides Book / Early Marriage Records Book This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. If you will give me your grandfather's name I can look him up and give you a date for his obit. More than likely there will be an article also of his wound. Also you can view the corner's inquest book at the courthouse in Marksville. Ask for it. Since he died of a gunshot there is a great chance of an inquest. The newspaper's are on micro film at LSUA, and the Weekly News(Avoyelles Journal)in Marskville, La. has them stored. You may ask to see them. Or if you have dates and do no live close they will copy it and mail to you. My friend abstracted some of these and I am not sure if she has gotten that far but I would need his name and about the year he was shot.
