In the book, "Coming to America", by Roger Daniels, page 39 is: "Richard Graham bought space in the Virginia Gazette of July 21, 1775 to offer "Twenty Dollars Reward" for: John Ecton DUCRECT, a native of Berne in Switzerland, who speaks very good French and tolerable Enlgish and Italian. He is about 5 feet 9 inches high, pitted with the smallpox, and very swarthy, almost as dark as a mulatto: wears his own hair, with a false tail, and is generally powdered, being a barber by trade. I have heard, however, since he went off, that he intended to cut off his hair and wear a wig. He has been used to travel with gentlemen, and will probably try to get into employ that way, or with some of the barbers in Williamsburg, as he was seen at doctor Todd's tavern, on the way there, the 22d ult. He took with him a suit of brown and a suit of green clothes, the brown pretty much wore, and has some rents on the back of the coat, the green almost new, a pair of new buckskin breeches, trousers that button down the legs, some white thread stockings and white shirts, a powder bag and some shaving materials, a prayer-book in French, and some old commissions for off! icers in the Swiss malitia, by which he will probably try to pass. One of his testicles was swelled, which he says was occasioned by a kick on board the Justitia, Capt. Kidd [not THE Captain Kidd: he was hanged in 1701], the ship he came in. Whoever secures the said convict so that I can get him again, shall be paid the above sum...

We are all still living, only Mom and Dad are deceased. The info on ancestry.com on my fathers death is incorrect he passed February 25, 1969. I do remember we took a few trips to AR to visit my fathers relatives, so the AR connection makes sense. I also heard about Louisiana a lot as a young child, so that connection rings true too. My grandmother was Daisy and and I do believe Willy was my grandfathers name. They are buried next to my parents in the Splendora TX graveyard. As I said in an earlier reply, I will try to get more info, if you have any specific questions.

He was born Sept. 9 1925 (I think) I was his last child and I was only 7 when he died in a car accident in February of 1969. He was married to Adolphine Kelling and had 7 children with her. He was in the Texas Coast Guard before marrying Adolphine (his second marriage) His first marriage resulted in two sons which he allowed to be adopted by thier stepfather. Both of those grew to be men in the Houston area. I do not know their legal last names, one was rumored to be successful in real estate. Oscar had a brother, but the details on him are a bit vague as far as I go. I do know that he was in prison for a while around the time Oscar died. I can get more details on him, and on my father from my siblings if you would like. Since I was so young when my father died, and they were much older, they would be more of the "experts" on Oscar and his family of origin. I hope this information helps you. If you have specific questions let me know and I will do what I can to get you the answers. It is nice to "meet" a relative. Ginger

Have you ever thought, that might be my Great Grand parents? So many people let family pictures get away for one reason or another. You have these old pictures, you do not know who they are, and you sell them on ebay. There are people in your family that are looking for family members. Scan these pictures and put them on the message board--- someone in your family wants them. Our history and our families are disappearing. Take a few minutes to save your family heritage--- post your old pictures and documents on the message board before they are lost in obscurity. Wain Reily E-mail:wainr@cableone.net
