I am related the Jones, Dorsey and Martins (Smile) from Marksvile Louisiana, Avoyelles Parish. One of my great aunts married a Willie Jones who had a daugther name Mary. My great aunt's name was Olina Dorsey- Jones . Her parents were Edmond and Amiee Dorsey would you or your husband be a part of this linage? My grand father was born a Martin his name was Samuel Martin - Allen most people call him Dawson Allen after being adopted his last name changed to Allen. He had a sister name Mary and a brother name Edger both Martins. They were adopted by a George Allen who married their mother. Who's name was Miss. Ann last name unknown.The Martin's can be found near a little town near Bunkie La. They owned a plantation there in the 1800's. My gg grand father was Edmond Dorsey he married a woman named Amiee last name unknown - Dorsey in 1880. They had 11 children before marriage. The children were Edmond, Sarah, Juila, Louise. Laura, Amiee, Cornelia, William Nelse, Olina or Paulina, Deliah, Fanny, and maybe a son called Steward after they were married? The Washington side. My my gg grandparents were Joseph and Charlotte Washington their children were Joseph, Grant, Edward, Corneluis, and other children unknown. There are so many places to look and so many people with the same names you will get betrter results if you include dates as well as names and places. William Nelson Gremillion and his wife Loucille Edwards Gremillion published at least 3 books on Early Avoyelles Parish Families. If your library does not have these books, ask your librrian if a library near you has these books. If you would like to buy the books, go to hebertpublications.com and see a list of all the books published by Hebert Publications. Ms. Alberta Ducote published several books of baptismal records from Avoyelles parish. St. Paul's in Mansura comes to mind. Look for these at your library, etc. The census is also a good please to search. It is not hard to do. Once, again ask your librarian for help. Libraries are a wonderful source. In all your research, have you come across any Worthy's, Browns or Boones? I'm looking for help on my GM's side. I found a marriage certificate for my GGM dated 1899. Lelia Brown married Scott James Worthy in Avoyelles Parish, Marksville. I know that Scott's parents were Lavilla Brown and Scott James Worthy they married inn 1868 in East Feliciana. Do you have any Worthy's or Browns in 1870 Census that could possibly match these. Lavilla had three boys that I know of, Scott (My line), Eugene, who married Kate Boone and Thomas. Sometime between 1868 and 1880, Scott James died and Lavilla is listed as a widow in the 1880 Census. That's all I've been able to find on this family. Interestingly enough, on the Lelia and Scott's wedding certificate, one of the witnesses was an E.P. Boone. I would be eternally grateful if you found anything. I've been searching this line for YEARS. Lelia died sometime after 1910 and my GM and three of her ! four siblings, were raised in an orphange in or around Bunkie. Don't know what happened to Scott James. Rumor has it that he moved to Cuba to manage a sugar cane plantation. Thank you!
