Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5BB.2ACE/361 Message Board Post: I have recently completed a search for cemeteries of Avoyelles by looking at aerial photography and topographic maps of the entire parish. Of course, data from the Census Bureau and the La Cemetery board is also included. The search turned up a number of cemeteries that have not been previously listed. The Census Bureau lists cemeteries for location information for its census takers. They have no desire to list every cemetery that exists. Although, they will add them to the list if furnished info and proof. The La Cemetery Board lists cemeteries that do more than $300 a year in business, which equates in my mind with a burial a year. They also list cemeteries whose owners ask that they be listed. You can imagine there are not many of those. As a result, those above two sources are not identical and the sum of them is still not nearly complete. Thus my effort. My presentation is comprehensive with aerial views and zoomable maps to each cemetery that I was able to locate. Surely I have missed some, but I have detailed 115 of them. I hope some find this useful, else I wasted a very large amount of time (which is what my wife says). Reviews, critques and additions are especially welcome. See the listing at www.historicriverroad.org Martin Gauthier martygenesearch@stmaarteninsider.com
Is this Martin a memeber of the Pointe Coupee / Avoyelles Landerneau family? Is Martin a second name? When did he die?

I happen to have a book, "The Perrons of Southwest Louisiana" by Gerard Perron published in 1997. This is a Perron Family History and your LUCILLE is shown as Lucie, born 24 June 1885. I was sorry that there is nothing else on LUCILLE (you have more information on her), but it does show her brothers and sisters (10), both of her parents, OBERIE PERRON and ALITA GUILLORY married October 4, 1879 and information on Oberie Perron's father FRANCOIS PERRON IV, born 1829...then traces the PERRON line all the way back to a JEAN PERON, b. 1580, d. 1636 in LA Rochelle, France. I don't know if you have any of this information. This is a facinating and interesting book and has wonderful stories about this family. I have a copy of this book because my best friend is a PERRON descendent and she loaned me the book. My LOUISIANA ancestors are from the same area and there is much helpful information for my research on my family. I also have seen this book in! the regional library here in Metairie, Jefferson, Louisiana. I don't know if you live in Louisiana, but it probably is available at different libraries in the state. If you don't have access or can't find it, I would be happy to send you the line going back if you need it.

Hi, I'm new to this mailing list and a bit naive about how to get copies of official documents. I wonder if someone can suggest where I can obtain copies of various records relating to an old relative William Kohler who settled in Avoyelles Parish in the 1870s and 1880s. This is all I know about him: His given name was Guillaume Kohler. He was born in 1853 or 1854 in Alsace which at that time was part of France. Alsace was ceded to Prussia in 1871 and William gave his place of birth as Prussia on the 1880 census. He came to the USA about 1872, became a citizen on 5/23/1877, died 26 Oct 1887. He married Angelica Rabalais on 17 Dec 1874 and had three kids : Emile born in 1873 (either 1 Apr or 4 Jan), Jules born 8 Aug 1879, and Jeanne ("Jane") born Nov 1882. I'm really keen to get copies of the records of his immigration, citizenship, marriage and death, and of the birth certificates of his three children. Do you know where I can apply for these things? Thanks very much, David Kohler
