He died in 1820 or 1821. He was married to Nancy Roe (Rowe). He had a coasting license and owned some kind of boat or schooner. I suspect he was involved in the slave trade. I would like to find his burial place.

Arrived in Avoyelles Parish, LA in Feb. 1873 where he has resided since. Filed 10-23-1886, File #111 } Source: Avoyelleans of Yesteryear by Jeraldine Dufour LaCour in section on Alien Applications for Citizenship. She notes that The Oaths Of Allegiances are registered in "Civil Docket 1868-1929". The Applications for Citizenship are found in a loose drawer; most, not all are numbered. My notes indicate that there was a 5 yr wait for citizenship, most applicants swore an oath, it appears the original document shows arrival date and age not parents. *Borgodale a.k.a. Borgo d'ale in the Piemonte region, Prov. di Vercelli, Italy Also found that Jean Fontane was a wheelwright. I'm still looking for info on Irene Praxedes Bosso, the woman I suspect was Jean's 1st wife and Dominic's mother but I do have a copy of marriage certificate to Selma Bordelon for any who are interested. Did anyone ever find out what happened to Doralice's family research files?

It comes through Wm Henry Kelone's grandfather Christopher Kelone's first wife, Marie Alice Beuclair. The Indian tribe is the Illini, a part of the Algonquin federation, from Kaskaskia, Illinois. Illini Indian Chief François Xavier Rouensa's daughter Marie converted to Christianity and married twice, each time to a Frenchman ( in order to cement a political alliance between the French and the Indian tribes). Her second marriage to Michel Philippe in 1703 produced, amongst others, Agnès Philippe who married René Roy. Their daughter Elizabeth Roy married Joseph Hennet, whose daughter Elizabeth Hennet married Guillaume René Gauthier. Their daughter Suzanne married Belony Claude Chatelain. Suzanne's son Joseph Belony Chatelain married Marie Roy. One of their children, Melina Chatelain married Pierre Beuclair, whose daughter Marie Alice Beuclair was Christopher Kelone's first wife , and the mother of Pierre! Sidney Kelone.

William talked fondly of his mother Laura, however he did not speak of his father and did not like his brother. He did speak of a half brother, not sure if it was Emeric. I have a few photos of William Kelone. When he returned from the war, his brother had sold the house and everything else. He never saw his brother again. I have not found any proof or documents of Cherokee ancestry. Only word of mouth and very few words at that. I was hoping you might have something on that. This would be easier for me to do this with e-Mail. Thanks: Your Friend Ben CORELOKT@aol.com

Also Emeric and William were both children of Pierre Sidney Kelone and Laura Smith Kelone. Laura apparently died between 1930 and 1936 because Pierre remarried in 1937. The 1930 census for East Feliciana Parish shows Laura Kelone in the household of her father Jacob Sellers Smith with Emeric and William, both of whom are listed as his grandsons. Pierre is in Orleans Parish with a nephew in his household. Laura told the census taker that she was married but Pierre told the census taker that he was a widower. I don't see any indications of Cherokee ancestry.

This project has begun and the primary persons behind it are Jerry Bordelon and Bruce Gagnard. The scope of the project is wide but includes photographing every gravesite in a cemetery, identifying every person buried there, gathering as much genealogical and family history on each person along with photo’s if possible and putting the information on a website for researchers and families to see. Many people are not able to visit the gravesites of their many ancestors and this will provide a way for them to visit “in spirit” if not in person. We currently have nearly completed St. Joseph #1 and #2 in Marksville and are working on several others in Avoyelles. If you have info, family history, pictures etc. that you would like to assist with the project or if you would like to volunteer to help with the project please don’t hesitate to contact us. The project will also e! xpand to surrounding Parishes such as Evangeline, St. Landry, Pointe Coupee, and Rapides to name just a few. It is a little hard for us at times since we both live very far away from Avoyelles now. We will put a new posting online once the website is up. It shouldn’t be too long and I think everyone who visits it will come away very satisfied.

In Marksville, the local newspaper carries some. I can't remember the name of the paper but it is run by Randy Decuir. In Mansura is the St. Paul's Catholic Church. They have some as well and make photocopy the book for you. I think Randy will also but it would be cheaper at the church.
