I am looking for anyone with the following surnames who has a genealogical connection to the New Orleans area: GOUGUET, MULHOLLAND, PETIT (through France>Santo Domingo>LA rather than Acadian), JOSSE, MAROTTE, and PAGART. The Archdiocese of New Orleans has planned the demolition of three sections of condemned wall vaults in the St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery within the next few years. Among these wall vaults is one purchased by my gggggrandmother, Rosa Therese Petit Gouguet. There are 12 of our family members, including my gggrandmother and 6 children, buried in this wall vault. (See below.) I am hoping to find other descendants of Rosa's and especially the holder of the deed, so that we may decide what can be done with the remains of our ancestors. This is a very troubling situation. I thought that tombs were sacred places that the family owned forever. Not so. Any plot or wall vault "neglected" for 50 years reverts back to the possession of the owner of the cemetery be that the city or the Archdiocese or whomever. The cemetery is then entitled to resell that property. This is what the Archdiocese plans to do within a few years: tear down three sections of wall vaults and rebuild and resell them. They say the money is to be used to fund restoration of the two sections that will remain for historical purposes. Thanks for listening, Renee Clay New Orleans, LA kclay@bellsouth.net Buried in St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery, Square No. 1, Vault No. 12, Range No. 2, Sect. B, St. Joseph Alley. PETIT, Mme.
