    2. Why don't you contact the: Le Comite' des Archives de la Louisiane, PO Box 1547, Baton Rouge, LA 70821-1547 and they might be able to answer some questions you have and they have lots of books and literature you can buy or if you are close, go in and read yourself. Also, try the LSU library. The Morgan City or Brashear as it was known first doesn't have a lot in the historical society library but you could contact them regarding the family names. I went in and did my own research and you can do that as well. Good luck with your research. Betty [email protected] ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    2. Hi.? Looking into family history...grandmother Laura Sparks enumerated as "Indian" in 1920 census, lived in Morgan City.? We've always been told we were Cherokee, and I'm looking for more information.? My greatgrandmother, whose maiden name was Bunch, was also counted as Indian in the 1920 census.? All the native americans in the morgan city area in the late 1800s seem to be Chitimacha.? Would appreciate any help in identifying my family's tribe.?? ________________________________________________________________________ Email and AIM finally together. They may have some rolls in stock or they can order the rolls you need at a small price. They rent for about $3.50 per roll of film which just about pays for postage. You have to read the film at the FHC. The staff at the FHC should be able to help you. For more information on doing specific research, go to _www.familysearch.com_ (http://www.familysearch.com) . Click on "get step-by-step research help...." click search by subject. click N for Native American, and etc. These research guides are put out by the LDS church and you can read or down load them to your computer. As far as I know, Louisiana does not have a complete listing of NA members on film or otherwise. Many NAs did not register and were assimilated into other races including white, black, and otherwise. If you are searching the census, remember: In some of the earlier census (1870 La.) you were listed Black or White. Many NA were listed as Black because of their darker skin, so were French, Spanish, and in some cases, pure White/English with no mixed bloodline (which was unusual as most of us have some mixed blood of some kind!) 3. I do not know much about the Indian rolls I know they are out there? I think some can be found on internet have you googled Dawes? Indian Rolls . You can find things like that on the web but you pay a price just for a name look up. I think Ancestory.com has these things for a price. If any of your people were living on Indian Territory in 1900-???? it some times shows up on the Us Federal census. And if it does it will say what tribe and how much indian blood per person. Sorry not to be able to help more. Have you found all your kin on the Us census in 1900 /1910 /1920 ?
