I am interested in historical information on Reuben Kemper who led the Kemper expedition to overthrow the Spanish authorities in Mobile. My ancestor, John Caller/Callier, and his brother James Caller/Callier, were leading citizens in the Tombigeebee region of the MS Terr. at the time, and were involved with Kemper. Very likely my McGrew family was , as well since they, too, wanted to throw off the Spanish yoke. Both McGrews and Callers were elected offficals in the territorial government and militia. John Caller was a colonel in the Am. Rev. and his brother Col. James was the head militia officer in what would become Alabama. He unfortunately led in the ignominious Burnt Corn battle in the Creek War. I am getting together information to write an article on the Callers and McGrew families for an online history of the MS Terr. and would like to find any references that you might know of pertaining to their part in the Kemper expedition. Since it originated in the Bayou Sara area, I thought that someone in your organization might know where I could find more sources. We used to live in Clinton in the 60's and early 70's when my husband pastored the First Baptist Church and Bluff Creek church there. We still visit there often. I loved the history involved with the area. Sincerely, Sue Moore Longview, TX
