This is/was a great impact on my ggrandmother, Leonora, as she was one of the children left without a father and also lost her mother. Leonora remained in Feliciana married, raised a family and her dau, Mary Ann, m. there as well, but Mary Anne's son (my gf) left and never returned. He worked in New Orleans and then moved to Shreveport, LA where he lived for many years and died there. Travel was not common to them growing up in Shreveport. My mother (1906-1994) did not know any of her family in Feliciana after she left at age 4 and she had no desire to.
