Hello everyone, I just signed on to the list several days ago. I'm researching several families in Louisiana. Primarily I'm researching Uriah SMITH of St Tammany Parish and his family. Uriah came to Louisiana from Dutchess Co, NY. He was born between 1770-1780. He married sometime before 1809 (possibly in the St Tammany area) Frances GEORGE of Georgia. Uriah and Frances were the parents of seven to eight children, all born in St Tammany Parish. Samuel (b ca 1809, m Sarah Ellen HAMILTON), Morris (b ca 1811, m Mary Jane REGAN), George (v ca 1813, m 1st Sarah Ann Elizabeth JOYNER, 2nd Lydia Ann SEALE), Frances Mary (b 1820, m Dr Edward HARTMANN), Martha Margaret (b ca 1823, m John CARMAN), Ann Wilmuth (b ca 1825, William Colson WARREN) and Rebecca (b 1828, m James B WARREN). I'm descended from his daughter Martha Margaret and her husband John CARMAN of Washington Parish. I've been trying to find alternative records for Washington Parish for the time period of 1816-1850 since the courthouse burned twice. John says that he was born in TN in 1816. His father Benjamin died in Washington Parish before 18 Dec 1819. His wife Pamelia HART CARMAN remarried in Marion Co, MS Isaac A MYLES in 1819. If anyone is researching the SMITHs or the CARMANs, please contact me. Deborah McVean
