Evelyn.. land records show owners and property discriptions and dates..which if you understand them you can locate the property exactly. Try finding Land Grants. There are records that show the information in "title/deed" form as well as the specific land location and number of acres....like the one I have for Lycurgus Torry. It is a certificate showing he recieved his property as a land grant under the Land Grant Act signed by the President. Dont know where those records are kept but I would imaging in Land Records/deeds of the State or County or perhaps US government Land Grant Records as it was a US grant . This would not show up as a land purchase I am sure. Much of the early property came into families as Grants. They had to settle the property, and clear it , and work the land for about 5 years and then they could apply for a land grant. Early Texas land was owned by the Mexican citizens...the only way to get that land was through marriage if you were not a Mexican citizen....Many did just that..settled the land... and then the ALAMO!! and the rest is History. My stepmothers family has thousands of acres in south Texas around Laredo through her father. It came from a generous land grant from Mexico to each and every one its citizens for settling the land..big famalies they had..., as a means of establishing borders, long before he found himself suddenly living in Texas. She still wonders just who decided English was the language to be spoken in Texas...
