CHILTON, DR. ST. JOHN POINDEXTER A retired plant pathology professor and department head at LSU and a resident of Bayou Rapides, he died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Rapides Regional Medical Center. Visiting at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Alexandria, from noon until religious services in the chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Kerr Texada officiating. Burial in Castile Cemetery, Bayou Rapides. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Alice Hunter Chilton of Bayou Rapides; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank N. Chilton of Georgia; and a niece, Mrs. Ralph Gill. Pallbearers will be Ralph Gill, David Gill, Edward Deshotel, Adolph Eversull, Richard Johnson and Dr. John Texada. As a student at LSU he made the first perfect grade record in the history of the university. He was a former consultant to Nicaragua Sugar Estates, director of La Place Enterprises, president of local chapter of SAR, past president of Louisiana Historical and Genealogical Society, president of Historical Association of Central Louisiana, a life member of American Sugarcane League, a Rotarian, and he was listed in Who’s Who in the World.
