    2. Jan Garland
    3. John was living in St. Landry's Parish in the 1820 census. I need to look the details up again... The censuses were hard to read---long rows of numbers. Seems to me he was over 45 in both censuses. (They have the censuses at www.genealogylibrary.com, BTW.) I have a James McLaughlin with no confirmed birthplace, though I've heard it was Derry Co. Ireland, in 1782. Have been hoping to find his father. I don't know when James arrived in LA. He married Marie Lucinda Carr before 1816, but their first child, my ggg grandmother Elizabeth McLaughlin, was born before they were married. They were eventually divorced, after 8 kids. Elizabeth married Martin Dunman and moved to TX, as did James and Marie Lucinda. Jan G. > The ISTG deserves the credit!!
