    1. [LA-LGHS-L] Genealogy program set at Nicholls
    2. Genealogy program set at Nicholls By River parishes bureau THIBODAUX -- A program titled "Genealogy of the Acadian People" is scheduled Aug. 5 in Peltier Auditorium on the campus of Nicholls State University. The program is sponsored by NSU, the Lafourche Heritage Society and Congres Mondial Acadien, a 16-day event meeting in 56 cities across south Louisiana. Speakers will seek to broaden the historical and genealogical knowledge of the many dispersed Acadian descendants and provide guidance in researching Acadian ancestors through exposure to experts and authorities in historical, genealogical and related fields. "People are coming from all over," said Tom Butler, symposium coordinator and NSU associate librarian. "Speakers are hitting topics which are of paramount interest to the genealogists," Butler said. The symposium, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., is free and open to the public. Meanwhile, the third annual Cajun and Zydeco Music and Dance Exhibit will be held the same day in the Ellender Memorial Library on the NSU campus. The group Ecouter will perform from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and Cajun Bon Temps will perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the student center. Julie Landry of Academy of Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau will lecture on the diversity of Cajun and Zydeco music from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the library.
