    1. [LA-LGHS-L] Henry Shelto Sanford:
    2. We are a government agency in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and are researching land history in Florida.  Several individuals who impacted the development of our state had ties to Louisiana.  Henry Shelton Sanford owned a sugar plantation, Oakley, in the 1870s.  Another is Rufus Edwards Rose who was born in Louisiana, was an expert on sugar cultivation and became the state chemist for Florida.  The third is James Edmondson Ingraham, born in Wisconsin and reported to have come to Florida in the 1870s from Louisiana.  Please advise what resources you might have available to track these men or if you have any information you can provide.  We have looked at the Oakley Plantation (associated with Audubon) website and no mention is made of Henry Shelton Sanford. Was there more than one Oakley Plantation.  Thank you very much for your assistance.  Barbara Poleo (Please respond to jous@aol.com)
