GENEALOGICAL SEMINAR Louisiana Lecturers-Louisiana Topics The annual seminar of the Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society will be held on Saturday April 28th, from 9-4, at the Days Inn Conference Center, 10245 Airline Highway, Baton Rouge. Mary Linn Wernet, Head Archivist of the Cammie Henry Research Center, Northwestern Louisiana University, Natchitoches, will present "Illuminating the Lives Before," an introduction to the resources at the center. "Who Were the 700 Louisiana Students at a Kentucky College in the 1800s?" will be the topic of Emory Charles Webre, MRE, New Orleans native and St. Louis teacher. Wilbur Meneray PhD., Tulane University Assistant Dean for Special Collections, will offer insights into "The Ethnic Diversity of Louisiana." A topic of interest to all genealogists, "Genealogical Standards: What Are They? How Do They Concern Me?" will be presented by Houma native and professional researcher Claire Mire Bettag, CGRS. Registration is $22.50 for members and $32.50 for non-members. The meeting and seminar will include coffee breaks, lunch, and free parking. On-site registration will be from 8-9 a.m.-"early bird" door prize at 9. Hébert Publications, Banner Press, and others will have books for sale. Send registration to P.O.     3. CHILTON, DR. ST.  JOHN POINDEXTER   A retired plant pathology professor and department head at LSU and a resident of Bayou Rapides, he died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Rapides Regional Medical Center. Visiting at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Alexandria, from noon until religious services in the chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Kerr Texada officiating. Burial in Castile Cemetery, Bayou Rapides. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Alice Hunter Chilton of Bayou Rapides; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank N. Chilton of Georgia; and a niece, Mrs. Ralph Gill. Pallbearers will be Ralph Gill, David Gill, Edward Deshotel, Adolph Eversull, Richard Johnson and Dr. John Texada. As a student at LSU he made the first perfect grade record in the history of the university. He was a former consultant to Nicaragua Sugar Estates, director of La Place Enterprises, president of local chapter of SAR, past president of Louisiana Historical and Genealogical Society, president of Historical Association of Central Louisiana, a life member of American Sugarcane League, a Rotarian, and he was listed in Who’s Who in the World. Memorials may be made to Pediatric Therapy Center, 2021 MacArthur Drive, Alexandria, LA 71301.

It is with great sorrow that the family of Anita Hollis wishes to inform you of her death.  Anita died peacefully last night just before midnight.  She was surrounded by her loving family as she left us.  We all find comfort in the fact that she is no longer suffering. One of the last things she asked me to do was to inform all of her "e-mail family" when the time came.  She will be at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  The exact time of the funeral has not been set at this time.  I would like to thank all of you for all the kind messages that we have received.  I printed them out and took them to the hospital to share with the family.  It meant so much to us to know that so many people thought so highly of Mom.  She was a very special person and we will miss her.     3. There is a book in the public library that list several cemeteries in and around E. and W. Feliciana. I think it may be called "Gone but not Forgotten" Wouldn't swear to that title. In the meantime post a query on the J for Johnson list. Plenty of them buried up there including many of mine. I know I copied quite a few pages, if I can find them, I'll gladly do a look up or mail them to your snail mail address Ginger

The name of the cemetery is the Feliciana Cemetery. It was formed back in the early 1940's and seems now that all the original committee members are deceased. The problem that we have now is that there are many people that have bought plots in the cemetery but have no map to show where their plots are located.

    3. Does anyone have a copy of Vol. 3, no. 1, February 1985, of "Baton Rouge"? I am interested in obtaining a copy of the article "Calvin Smith: Land on Montesano Bayou." I'd be happy to pay the cost of copying and mailing. Brothers Calvin, Luther and Courtland Smith had adjoining landgrants, though none resided in the parish.
