Knew I had this, just a matter of locating. Bear Island Cemetary Livingston parish, La. The location of this cemetary is at nearly the end of Hwy. 1039 which dead ends at the swamps of Black Lake. This cemetary is in a state of decay, probably, the reason being that it has been out of use for a great many years. It has been hidden by thick, rampant growth of inderbrush, trees and vines, thus hiding it from passers using this road. Even many of the local residents did not know of the existance of this cemetary. Bear Island Cemetary is surronded by swampy areas and is only 4 feet above sea level. Directly behind the cemetary is the Black Lake canal which leads into the Black Lake , which leads into Lake Maurepas. Only a total of 20 Graves could be found. By no means is this cemetary census complete. Many of the tombstones have been destroyed and a great deal of the markers were just crosses of wood. Copied March of 1977 by Aubre Fontenot, Springfield, La. Graves #1 P. Vampram #2 Elizabeth C, Ernest #3 Lucretia Ovala #4 Unmarked (sems to be of a child) #5 Nichles Lestodin and his four children. #6 Unmarked #7 Unmarked(cement slab) #8 unmarked #9 Unmarked (cement slab) #10 unmarked #11 Father Joseph Penion 1850-1904 #12 Unmarked ( numbers 6-12 are all enclosed by a fence #13 Here rests Henrietta Vicknair wife of Gus Cambre 1859-1886 #14 Annie Daughter of N and E.L. Linden 1889-1891. #15 Lovans Kie son of P L and L B Comb age 2 yrs, and 3 months #16 unmarked (old wooden cross) I know you didnt want any genealogy but it seemed a pity to type the rest and not list the names. I copied this from one of the NOG mags. Hope it helps you Gingerblu@aol.com

Bear Creek Restaurant is West of Albany. Hwy 16 - North side of I 12 Albany is in Livingston Parish. Montpelier is in St. Helena Parish. Amite is in Tangipahoa Parish. We have more place out here....... Come on out to have a Steak.
Thanks I,m from Montpelier La. where the Bear Creek Restaurant is. Three miles south of where I was born. The Bear Creek Cemetery should be Near Amite La. It may have another Name now? This may be an African American Grave Yard in the back woods. We do not find it listed in any of the list or on the Maps. Just in hopes that someone out there may have the correct information. We have done most of the Tangipahoa Parish Cemeteries. Also; St. Helena - Livinggston - Washington & St. Tammany Parishes. All on line USGenWeb Archives. I hope all the Parishes will soon be online. Can you record one for us. Don

There is a Bear Creek Louisiana in Jackson Parish, but Jackson Parish was not one of the West Florida Parishes. See the map of parishes on my site at: http://www.thecajuns.com/parishes.htm Jackson is the top center part of the state (3rd parish down) Stanley LeBlanc http://www.thecajuns.com --- DW9JOHNSON@aol.com wrote: > Just need the Facts and please no Research advice. > Looking for: Location of Bear Creek Cemetery - > Florida Parishes > > Don > > > ==== LA-LGHS Mailing List ==== > LGHS: Serving Louisiana Genealogist since 1953. > To submit an article to be considered for > publication in The Register, > contact Mike Smith at <mksmith1@bellsouth.net> > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? There is a CD which has the New Orleans passenger lists from 1820 to 1850. It's Family Tree Maker's Family Archives CD #358.
