    3. Thanks for the info on Linden Plantation. My gggrandfather did bookkeeping for several plantation owners, so this may be the connection. A great aunt listed Linden as her address. What do the numbers in parenthesis mean? 3. Hello List, I just wanted to say "THANKS" to all of you who wrote me about the death certificate dates. If looks like my husband's relative died a couple of years too early (1915) to have had a death certificate. They didn't start the statewide certificates until 1918. However, someone did suggest church records, and I will try that instead. Again, thanks to all of you. This is a great list with some really wonderful people. Cindi

    2. Hi Stephanie, A must for Shreveport research is the Shreve Memorial Library on Texas Street, downtown. The library sits "catty-cornered" across from the courthouse. The genealogy department is the 3rd floor of the building and you will be pleasantly surprised at our holdings. The hours are daily 9 to 6 (I think for summer) except Sunday which is 1 to 5. There is no fee to use the library & you may bring all your papers & notebooks in with you. Parking is a problem on week days, but the street behind the library has a Bank One parking garage that most of us use. It costs $4 for the entire day. A sandwich shop is across the street but closes in the early afternoon, so eat early (Theo's)........no area in library to get a cola or snack. Parking on the streets is by a meter and the police do enforce the expired meters with tickets or a lock on the car. Weekends parking with the meters is free. If I can answer any questions, just ask. Joyce

I will spend Monday through Friday traveling the northeast side of Louisiana to the Mississippi border searching for my family roots in court records etc. I will also go to Shreveport and Mansfield Louisiana contacting some relatives and on a record finding mission. Anyone have suggestions about the largest repository of records of African American birth, death, slave bill of sales dating back to 1830 for my Louisiana trip? Stephanie Martin-Quiatte
