I found a page that contains an index called, "Preliminary index to the original suit records of the Superior Court of the Territory of Orleans, 1804-1809" The web page address is: http://www.gnofn.org./~nopl/inv/superior/superior.htm Have fun! Debbie Tabeek
Richard, If you go to <http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/LA/Caddo/#rootslink> you will see a link to subscribe to the Caddo List. Or -- To subscribe to LACADDO-List, send a message to [email protected] (for list mode) [email protected] (for digest mode) that contains in the body of the message the command subscribe and no other text. No subject line is necessary, but if your software requires one, just use subscribe in the subject, too. Hope this helps. Bill Austin
Deborah, I once did some research on Dr Hartmann and Frances. You will find information in the St. Tammany courthouse. I did not have success in Washington Parish. If You tell me what you need, I'll check that file and see what info I have. This is a great list with a lot of good researchers willing to help pass on what they know. In fact, the board members of LGHS are suppose to be subscribed to this list and they are suppose to jump in and help out when a subscribers question can not be answered by another subscriber <grin> There is a mailing list that many new comers to La reseach mistakenly subscribe to "La-Data" which is NOT for posting queries. The La-Data list is only for submitting information to the file managers of the different parish archives. It is NOT a general mailing list. It is more of a "read-only" type of list, unless you happen to have data (such as land records, bible records, etc.) to submit that you want put into a parish archive. The main thing to remember when submitting data is to put the parish in the subject line.... (and NO queries on the La-Data mailing list) Annette Womack ASC LaGenWeb
Hello everyone, I just signed on to the list several days ago. I'm researching several families in Louisiana. Primarily I'm researching Uriah SMITH of St Tammany Parish and his family. Uriah came to Louisiana from Dutchess Co, NY. He was born between 1770-1780. He married sometime before 1809 (possibly in the St Tammany area) Frances GEORGE of Georgia. Uriah and Frances were the parents of seven to eight children, all born in St Tammany Parish. Samuel (b ca 1809, m Sarah Ellen HAMILTON), Morris (b ca 1811, m Mary Jane REGAN), George (v ca 1813, m 1st Sarah Ann Elizabeth JOYNER, 2nd Lydia Ann SEALE), Frances Mary (b 1820, m Dr Edward HARTMANN), Martha Margaret (b ca 1823, m John CARMAN), Ann Wilmuth (b ca 1825, William Colson WARREN) and Rebecca (b 1828, m James B WARREN). I'm descended from his daughter Martha Margaret and her husband John CARMAN of Washington Parish. I've been trying to find alternative records for Washington Parish for the time period of 1816-1850 since the courthouse burned twice. John says that he was born in TN in 1816. His father Benjamin died in Washington Parish before 18 Dec 1819. His wife Pamelia HART CARMAN remarried in Marion Co, MS Isaac A MYLES in 1819. If anyone is researching the SMITHs or the CARMANs, please contact me. Deborah McVean

Hey, don't apologize, we all speak as what we hear, but I have often found that people who do not know how we speak make fun of us. It is certainly not anyting to get offended about! They don't know the talk and they don't know the walk! :-) Gladys LaGrange de Villiers [email protected] http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Gallery/3653
