    3. Father Donald Hebert has indexed all of the church and courthouse records in southwest Louisiana. The books are Southwest Louisiana Records and come in volumes. Records start with 1750 and go into the early 1900's...I'm not sure what the last year he did and published but he is working on this all the time. I don't know where you live, so I don't know where to tell you to go find them. They are in just about all the libraries in SW La and in many of the major libraries across the country. He is putting them on CD. He has taken pre-pub orders for them but the cd is not out yet. The cost of the cd is somewhere around $335 last I heard. These books are invaluable, but HE would be the first to tell you that if you need this for proof, then get the actual record from the church or courthouse. This, like any other secondary source must be verified with the actual document or in the case of some chruches, a certificate stating what is there on the old record. We call them the "blue books" cause they are blue. Jan At 10:46 PM 9/3/1999 EDT, you wrote: >I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you mean about the "blue books" by >Rev. Herbert. Yes, Ruth Ann, you should have requested the application for the license, but Acadia Parish early marriages had almost no information that was of value.....so did not even have the what would be now considered a marriage license. 1. [LA-LGHS-L] BROPHY, FORSTALL, BLAISE
    2. Hello All, I received the following message asking for assistance in New Orleans. If there is anyone out there researching these names or that has information on the names, please contact me. Also very interested in knowing who the street FORSTALL is named after. Stephanie K. Martin-Quiatte Will anyone having the surname BLAISE and living in New Orleans, please contact me? I am trying to find relatives of my maternal great-great-grandfather, Armand FORSTALL also known as BLAISE. There is much confusion as to his legal name--my great-great-grandmother was called Grandma BLAISE, although her given name was Nellie, her maiden name was BROPHY, and her surname on census records was FORSTALL. They lived at various addresses in the Seventh Ward in New Orleans from 1885 until 1936; Armand/Blaise died in 1916 at 1712 Lapeyrouse Street and Nellie died in 1936--she lived on North Villere Street (1400 or 1600 block) at the time of her death. Please help me if you can. I look forward to your reply. > > >

    2. Hi, I am researching the names: COSSLETT, FARVE, and HEDGES in the Louisiana (Acadia, Lafayette & Jefferson Davis Parishes) area. I sent for copies of marriage documents and probate documents in the Acadia and Lafayette Courthouses, expecting to find some background, i.e. parents names, mother's maiden name, country of origin, etc. The copies I received only showed the people who were married, their witnesses, the justice of the peace, or minister, the date and place of marriage. In PA, I have gotten copies of the "Marriage License Application" which did show all the info I listed above. Now, I'm wondering if I should have requested the application instead of the marriage document. Does anyone know if the applications in LA list all this data, and if I should resubmit my request? Thanks in advance for any help. Ruth Ann
