    3. Hi I am searching for any information on these families especially in the Richland and Ouachita Parishes around 1930s. My grandfather's name was Frank Runels he married Maggie Spears. Frank was nicknamed Red Man. Rumor has it he was Native American-supposedly Cherokee-no proof. First wife was Sarah Woodward/Woods. Need more info on her. Maggie and Frank had 4 children: Frank, Jr. (Doc), Jeff, Clara Mae, Philip (my father.) Maggie's siblings were Roosevelt Spears, Bula Spears Singleton. I would like cemtaray/bible records on these families. Frank is buried at Bethel Baptist (?) or Pilgrim's Rest near Winnsboro (I believe). Maggie remarried a man with the last name of Taylor and moved to Lake Charles. The families worked for Ben and Cecil Pardue on the Pardue Place and Gold Mine Plantation. Bula married Ben Singleton he was born in Ruston, LA. Maggie and Roosevelt were born in Amite, Centerville MS. Thanks for your time and help cedwards

The book goes back as far as DAVID EDWARDS whose will was probated in South Carolina in 1790.

    3. I am going to make a visit to Amite in October. My husband has relatives still living there. I hve a brickwall so I will try to get in some libraries in the area. I will be visiting particularly in Liberty, Gloster and Columbia Mississippi. I have hopes of visiting the McCain Collection at USM in Hattiesburg. Can any body give me some suggestions. I will be coming up from Louisiana as I am picking up my 80 year old mother-in-law. I know that I will be liimited in what I will be doing but do want to do as much as I can. Diane Short

    3. I just want to thank everyone that respond to my cry for help. I really appreciated it. I got directions, names of libraries to access. Librarians names-always helpful. HELPFUL HINTS. VERY HELPFUL Hints. I can't wait-I can't wait I live in Oklahoma. I have never been to a small town in my life-I can't imagine what that will be like. Biloxi is the smallest 'town" I have ever lived in. Yeah, I know not very small. I was reared on military bases. I was around the family about every 3 years when we moved to another base. This is why I do genealogy- I needed to know the family better. Amite is where my grandparents were raised -- I want to see this place. My g-g-g-grandparents were slaves there-I still want to see it. I have never been on a farm- I have to see the area. I will visit relatives-the suggestion was made that I spend time with my relatives - Great suggestion -- because the orginal plan was to pop in and pop out. That will be altered.     3. cedwards, The main places to go are The State Archives on Essen Lane just south of I-12; and the Bluebonnet Regional Library on Bluebonnet Blvd. abot 2-3 miles west of I-10. Where are you coming from? Centreville looks like it is about one hour or so north of the airport. It is just a little way over the state line. Hope this helps.     3. I am planning on coming to Louisiana the end of this month. I am interested in researching the period of Louisiana history between 1803 and 1850. The locations I am interested in are New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Can anyone suggest the facilites that have the best materials. Charlotte Mattern
