Please pass on this message to all the folks on the network: A mother who has been searching for her lost child, is asking for everyone's help. He was taken from Summerville, FL, from a wedding by his father, on Dec. 19, 1998. He is three years old and his name is Aaron Russell Steinmetz. The father's name is Michael Anthony Steinmetz. They were traveling in a black 1991 Astro van with dark window tinting. Lic # SFK47Q. If seen, please contact the Marion County Sheriff at 352-9111. Please pass this message on, and maybe with enough folks watching out and praying, this child might possibly be returned to it's mother. Louvenia Solar

Just a passing thought--there is a village between New Iberia and Lafayette on Hwy 182 by the name of Cade--not far from St.Martinville. I have no idea who it was named after, but perhaps it may have some connection to your C. T. Cade. Hi Betty Well, perhaps we should look back a bit further, into LA census records and into NC, where Sarah was born, and where I think I recall seeing the surname on census lists. Let's stay in touch and see what we find. I think, as unusual as the Cade name is, that it would be a pretty amazing coincidence if Sarah and C. T. were not related somehow. If the C. T. Cade were b. about the same time as James Taylor White (could they be BIL?) perhaps there would be a trace of the family in 1790 or 1800 in NC. White had lived in NC, also. Beryl I'm from Houma which is not far from Morgan City. I have M.C.'s phone listings in my phone directory. Need any look-ups, etc. let me know. Louvenia Solar
Robbie, are you by any chance from Morgan City, LA? I had/have a good friend from there I haven't heard from in years. Beryl
Hi I have only the initials of C. T. Cade. Here's the site where I heard of him: http://block.dynip.com/wtblockjr/opelousa.htm I'm wondering if the Sarah Cade that was married to James Taylor White, my relative, was related to him. James was b. 1798 and Sarah b. 1795 in NC married 1/26/1813 in St. Martin Parish (which I think is the same as old Opelousas Parish) LA. So, the location is correct. Charles Taylor Cade would no doubt be a younger generation. But he could be a son or grandson, and namesake, of the C. T. Cade in the article. The Taylor name is also a suspicious recurrence, that seems to go back to NC or VA earlier in the 1700's. Let me know you thoughts after you read the article. Thanks so much for writing. Maybe we can make some sense of all this. Jan Garland Betty Bordenave wrote: > > Dear Ms. Garland: > I have a Charles Taylor Cade in my database. However he died 3Jun1912 > @Mineral Wells, TX. I called the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry in Baton Rouge. The young lady who answered the phone looked up the brands for me, made a copy and sent them to me free of charge. If you know the name and the approximate date, she will probably do the same for you. Amanda
Ok, great. Will do. Jan Aurand wrote: > > I called the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry in Baton > Rouge. Terrebonne Life Lines (Vol. 3 No. 3, 1984 & Vol. 3 No. 4 printed the index of listings from the maps of the Corps of Engineers "Survey of Red River and Tributaries" a collection of maps, survey between Nov. 1, 1886 and 4 Feb. 1892, by Kenneth B. Toups, which shows (in TLL No. 4 p. 22) Shaw's Place, Mathew - Map No. 4, Shaw's Place, Walter - Map No. 61, Shaw's Plantation, W.- Map No. 6, and Shaw's Woodyard - Map No. 6 (63 miles from Fulton, Arkansas). I believe Kenneth donated this old book of maps to the Terrebonne Parish Library. Kenneth died several years ago, but maybe you can contact the library for more info. Audrey Westerman
Jan: How did your ancestor, SHAW, acquire his land. By purchase from another individual? Records would be in the Clerk of Courts Office in the parish courthouse. From the Federal Government by Homestead? OR by private land claim prior to LA becoming a state? Then the U.S. Tract Books would show the entry with legal descriptions and the Federal Government would have a case file on the claim. I have found ferry permits in Calcasieu Parish applied for and granted by the parish governing body, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, in their minutes of their meeting. Other parishes may have a parish council or something similar. Minutes are at the council or police jury offices. As to taxes....I'm not sure the records go back quite that far, but we have at our library in Lake Charles, the tax records for Calcasieu Parish going back (I believe) to 1865 on microfilm. I think the State Library of LA has it for other parishes. And yes there is a book of cattle brands for LA, but we don't have it. But cattle brands are also available on microfilm from the State Library of LA for a small fee for out-of-staters. Hope this helps. Hi Ok, here's a new question: Looking for information on C. T. Cade, of Oasis, Iberville Parish, La., who also owned a large cattle ranch on High Island, TX. He drove cattle on the Opelousas Trail (pretty much the old Spanish Trail) to market in New Orleans. Another old time cattle rancher near him in TX was James Taylor White. He was married to Sarah Cade 1/26/1813 in St. Martin Parish LA. Wondering if C. T. might have been her brother or father. Sarah is said to have been born in NC. Any ideas? Jan G.

If anyone runs across the name Gravero as a surname would they tell me what they find...I have recently learned that Gravereau gradually became Gravero....same family that I first located in Ascension Parish starting in 1825..... Cheryl Gravereau
Hey, out there!!! Can somebody in Claiborne Parish run over and get the data at Murrell Cemetery somewhere in the vicinity of Homer? It was on private property way back in the early to mid-1840's. I hope I got that right...Just a CA girl here, never been there... Hi Carolyn, and all my LA cousins Yeah, you're right. No one else responded, no hard feelings though. What you say makes sense. Problem is we don't know exactly where on the Vermillion that land was. I assume they owned one of the "long lots" and that's why it touched on the river. I was hoping to learn even more than the location, though. Certainly, the family must have used the river for transportation, which would be one reason for it, but I was wondering if they ran a ferry business or if the dock could have been for shipping lumber or just for taking farm produce to the market. Wondered if they raised cattle or cane. So all this leads me to more questions that might lead to more answers: Where would one look for ferry permits or other data referring to ferries in public documents? Does anyone know of early tax lists--prior to 1845--that would list real estate or items pertinent to the family business or farm? Does anyone have a book listing cattle brands or markings? Where would I find a legal description of the land owned on the Vermillion River? What churches were near that location? Thanks Jan [email protected] wrote: > > Hello Jan, > > It doesn't appear anyone else has responded to your query. > In my limited experience, it appears that Shaw's landing > would be the pier where the boats tie up at Mr. Shaw's place > on the river. > > If anyone else has a difference explanation for this I too > would be interested in hearing it. > > Hugs, Carolyn > > On Thu, 21 Oct 1999 17:00:17 -0700 Jan Garland <[email protected]> writes: > >Hi > > > >Hoping one of you has an old map that might show Shaw's Landing, > >which > >was probably located on Vermillion River. Hello Jan, It doesn't appear anyone else has responded to your query. In my limited experience, it appears that Shaw's landing would be the pier where the boats tie up at Mr. Shaw's place on the river. If anyone else has a difference explanation for this I too would be interested in hearing it.
