    3. Thanks Holly, Unfortunately, I inherited some genealogical material from my grandmother without dates. My great great grandfather was John Williams BURTON III. His wife was Marie Theresa DUVERNOIS. They had one son, Philip, and one daughter, Theresa (my great grandmother). Philip was said to have been killed in the Civil War, and Marie Theresa died when daughter Theresa was 12. I believe Theresa was born around 1848. This might date the parents births to maybe in the 1820s. Marie Theresa died somewhere around 1860 of Yellow Fever, and Theresa was placed in school at the Convent of the Madames of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans. (That school is still around. I sent an e-mail several months ago, but no response - I need to try again). Theresa later married my great grandfather Eugene LEROY, who has been just as elusive. Judging from the little bit of BURTON history I've discovered, John's father (the 2nd), and maybe John, was born in Mocklenburg, Va. I believe they were later in Georgia before the younger ended up in La. He may have had one or more earlier marriages. John II., I understand, was married to Mary GORDON. Here's what my grandmother's records say: "John Williams Burton (2nd) had several sons. One of whom was an Episcopal Minister in Louisiana. They all settled in the West and Southwest. One of his descendants is the Right Rev. Lewis W, Burton, D.D. of Kentucky. Another son John Williams Burton (3rd) married Marie Therese Duvermois a Creole (Spanish and French descent) in New Orleans." Hadn't noticed before that it said they were married in New Orleans. I'd guess that would have had to be in the 1840's. I'll have to pursue that lead. I have nothing else on the Duvernois name. I'll have to inquire if there are any Duvernois' in N.O. in the 1830s-40s. Wish I had more to go on Holly. Your help is appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Holly Snyder" <hs_spartan@yahoo.com> To: "Ray Horton" <sunray@erie.net> Sent: Wednesday, May 08, 2002 3:50 PM Subject: Re: [LA-CEN] Re: 1850/60 Census/1890 Vet Sch. - Burton > I'll take a look for you and see what I can find out for > you.
