Ray, I read it from a copy of the original and "Wartel" was my best read. Someone else through the years may have transcribed it differently, but I have no way of knowing what that may have been. As for Louisiana state records/census, I have so little experience with Louisiana records, I couldn't venture a guess. I am sure there are folks on the list more familiar who could better answer your questions re New Orleans and Sacred Heart. My area of expertise is in Georgia and North Carolina.
