    3. Ray, I am not sure about 1860, but later academies/orphanages/etc. listed its students/inmates individually, which makes me think that Theresa should have been indexed. Then again, perhaps then only the headmaster was indexed, and I don't have a clue about how to go about finding out who that may have been in 1860. At any rate, these Burtons are in the right place, right time: 1860 St. Landry Parish, Louisiana - Grand Coteau - October 12, 1860 - page 956 1658 - Wartel Burton, age 53; planter; $45,000/100,000; born Kentucky Therisia, age 49; born Mississippi Much luck in your search, Linda in Georgia Census/Cemetery Lookup Volunteer Genealogy is my ONLY business. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ray Horton" <sunray@erie.net> To: <LA-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 11, 2002 9:45 PM Subject: Fw: [LA-CEN] 1860CEN. -Sacred Heart School student > Linda, > > You may have stumbled on something for me. As I wrote below, It's possible the Theresa BURTON you found in St. Landry's Parish, may have been her mother, Marie Theresa Duvernois BURTON. Do you have access to the actual 1860 census for a look-up of this, or can you give me the info from the index so someone can check for me. Thanks, Ray >

    3. Linda, You're right about this BURTON and Theresa - right place at right time. Can you verify the given name "Wartel." That's an odd one. If census taker took it down wrong, can't imagine what it should have been. Also, his being listed as a planter worth $45,000/100,000 would likely mean he had a plantation, as I understand my ancestor did. That does seem like a lot of money for those days. I plan to go through Burton research posted on line on message boards and my notes to see if I can find a likely BURTON born in Ky. Also, do you know if there is an 1865 La. state or N.O. census, and if so, if it would be hard to find the school/Convent on St. Peter's St.?
