Dear Listers: I have searched the LDS 1880 census reports till blue in the face and can't find the person I am searching for. I don't have access to Ancestry.com (or other sources) and feel sure that JOHN H. BALLANCE is hiding somewhere. What I do know: John H. Ballance, born 24 Feb. 1844 Yazoo City, MS, moved to Louisiana with his father, HANNAN (Hannon, Hanon, Han, Hanor, Hanah) Ballance and mother, Caroline (Carolina) McCaleb when one year old. John H. Ballance is listed in 1850 Bienville Parish census as: H/H Hanon Balance, 48, farmer, TN; wife, Ann, 28, MS; and children James R. (18 - MS), Mary (10 - MS), JOHN H. (6 - MS), Alleatha (27 - TN), Benjamin Aswell (20 -laborer - LA). JOHN H. BALLANCE married Mary Cordelia Horne 19 Sept 1864 Bienville Parish LA (Marriage records). He died 2 July 1918 Pineville, Grant Parish LA (death certificate). His wife died 11 May 1921 Grant Parish LA (death certificate - father listed as Mr. Horn). The 1870 census for LA (Bienville, I think, but failed to copy it down) was: John Ballance, 24, MS; Mary, 22, AL; and children: Mollie (3 - LA), Lenora (6 - LA), PARENTS: Han Ballance, 66, TN and Annie, 60, MS. His CSA pension (28th Infantry Regiment, Gray's, Company H was a Rapides Parish Unit. The pension stated that he had five daughters but I only know of the two listed in the 1870 census report. Any help out there would be deeply appreciated. Best regards, Jane
