    1. [LA-CEN] Calcasieu/1910/Whitley
    2. Hello, I'm trying to see if my great-grand parents were still living in Calsasieu Parish in 1910. Their names were Christopher Columbus, Jr. Whitley (36yrs.old) and Laura McGee Whitley (39yrs.old). My ggrandfather went by C.C. Whitley. He was born 12/5/1874 in Oberlin, La and she was born 7/24/1871 in Oberlin, La. They had 9 children by the time of the 1910 census. Their 8th child, Alice Whitley, was born on 4/20/1908. I'm trying to find out if she was born in Calsasieu parish or at least in La. She's my grandmother. Could you please check to see if the Christopher Columbus, Jr. Whitley family was living in Calcasieu parish during the 1910 census? Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Alice Britton 74 Chigger Hollow Dr. Crawfordsville, In. 47933

    1. Re: [LA-CEN] VERNON PARISH--1870--HUDGINS
    2. Linda Murray
    3. Faye, Vernon Parish wasn't formed until 1871 (from Natchitoches, Rapides and Sabine). I found no Hudgins (nor sound equivalent) in any of those parishes in 1870. I checked all the John Hudgins in the state except for one in 1870 Ascension Parish. The pages at Ancestry were so dark, I was not even able to locate a reference page number. If someone else has a better copy, there is a John Hutchen indexed in Donaldsonville, page 100. 1. [LA-CEN] Wheatons in Louisiana>AR>TX
    2. Helen M. Ross
    3. I am looking for Wheatons, all sizes, colors and shapes. Joe (1833/36), John (1835), Henry (1838) and Monday (1840) Wheaton report on the 1880 Madison County, Texas Census that they were born in Arkansas, their father in Arkansas and their mother in Louisiana. I've searched the length and breadth of Arkansas with no documented hint of their existence in Arkansas. Oral history states the brothers were 1/2 Indian and African. Further, it is stated they were never slaves. Based on the 1867 Texas Voter Registration, they migrated to Texas in 1848. We speculate that their father may have been a runaway slave who escaped to Indian Territory; maybe even changed his name to avoid detection. Needless to say, no African was named Wheaton so the name was picked up from somewhere. The other Wheatons I am interested in are George and Henry Wheaton who ended up in Homer, Louisiana after the Civil War. George and Henry (we don't know a date of birth, but Henry died in Hope, AR circa 1934/35 purportedly at the age of 103) were also born around the 1830s but they came directly from Africa after being tricked onto a slave ship and were sold into slavery to "Old Man Wheaton" in Louisiana. Old Man Wheaton never had children with "Old Lady Wheaton" because she was barren. Old Man Wheaton, however, purportedly fathered many children with numerous slaves on his plantation somewhere in Louisiana. Thus, oral history is predominantly what I have to go on and I've hit a dead end trying to track my Wheatons or possibly establish a connection between the Louisiana Wheatons and the Arkansas Wheatons. Any help I can get will be much appreciated.
