Looking for Sconza family, probably in New Orleans. Should have daughter about age 17 -- full name was Mariane Nina Sconza. Some variations in spelling (s for z, for example). Thanks for any information, leads you might be able to provide. Mary Kalas
Ray, The only Theresa Burton indexed in the 1860 Louisiana census index is in St. Landry Parish, age 49, born in Mississippi. Pretty sure that's not yours. I am looking for information on Courtney Faye Winchester. She lived on Louisiana Avenue in Downtown Baton Rouge in the 1930-1950. It is believed that she died in the mid to late 1950 a very old lady. She had an uncle, Captain Lathers, Captain of the River Boat Natchez. I would love to be in contact with someone that knew her or were kin to her. Looking forward to hearing from anyone with information. Gayle LeBlanc GLeb830536@aol.com

Linda, thanks for the info on the 1840 census. I sure do appreciate it. As far as any male children, I know Nicolas Traca and (wife) Rosalie Buras had 10 children: 1. Basiilia Traca October 28, 1812 ( female, married to Manus Isaac / Isaac Manus) 2. Basilio Traca November 24, 1814 ( I'm guessing a male) 3. Nicholas Traca 1815 4. Son Traca August 27, 1816 to August 27, 1816 5. Rosalie Traca 1818 (married John Aolphe Herbert) 6. Lucien Traca 1820 ( I'm guessing a male) 7. Melodie Sophie Traca (married to William Henry Castlen) 8. Elizabeth Traca (married Leo T. Craig) 9. Dometille Traca July 13, 1830 (female - married Julien Louis Giordano) 10. Leonidas Traca July 12, 1834 (I'm guessing a male) I'm wondering if any of the daughters (and husbands) inherited Nicolas' land as he was suppose to have a plantation. I'm also wondering about Iberville Parish. I'm not familliar with the parish boundaries but I know one of Nicolas' daughters, Melodie and her husband, Wm Henry Castlen were found in Iberville Parish in 1850. Thanks for any and all help!! It's very, very much appreciated. Thanks Holly, Unfortunately, I inherited some genealogical material from my grandmother without dates. My great great grandfather was John Williams BURTON III. His wife was Marie Theresa DUVERNOIS. They had one son, Philip, and one daughter, Theresa (my great grandmother). Philip was said to have been killed in the Civil War, and Marie Theresa died when daughter Theresa was 12. I believe Theresa was born around 1848. This might date the parents births to maybe in the 1820s. Marie Theresa died somewhere around 1860 of Yellow Fever, and Theresa was placed in school at the Convent of the Madames of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans. (That school is still around. I sent an e-mail several months ago, but no response - I need to try again). Theresa later married my great grandfather Eugene LEROY, who has been just as elusive. Judging from the little bit of BURTON history I've discovered, John's father (the 2nd), and maybe John, was born in Mocklenburg, Va. I believe they were later in Georgia before the younger ended up in La. He may have had one or more earlier marriages. John II., I understand, was married to Mary GORDON. Here's what my grandmother's records say: "John Williams Burton (2nd) had several sons. One of whom was an Episcopal Minister in Louisiana. They all settled in the West and Southwest. One of his descendants is the Right Rev. Lewis W, Burton, D.D. of Kentucky. Another son John Williams Burton (3rd) married Marie Therese Duvermois a Creole (Spanish and French descent) in New Orleans." Hadn't noticed before that it said they were married in New Orleans. I'd guess that would have had to be in the 1840's. I'll have to pursue that lead. I have nothing else on the Duvernois name. I'll have to inquire if there are any Duvernois' in N.O. in the 1830s-40s. Wish I had more to go on Holly. Your help is appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Holly Snyder" <hs_spartan@yahoo.com> To: "Ray Horton" <sunray@erie.net> Sent: Wednesday, May 08, 2002 3:50 PM Subject: Re: [LA-CEN] Re: 1850/60 Census/1890 Vet Sch. - Burton > I'll take a look for you and see what I can find out for > you. Shirley, Using a CD of Father Donald J. Hebert's research of documents of the court houses and churches of the original Catholic Diocese of Lafayette, covering 1750-1900, I offer the following re: Francois Willy Moody & Charles Moody--and ROBIN Note the various ways names were spelled................also, the work Father Hebert did was never meant to include all records, but he and his volunteers did a tremendous job. With the document numbers furnished, you should be able to contact the courthouse, church or library mentioned and obtain a copy...... CHARLES L. MOODY...married THERESE ROBIN on February 4, 1873.......marriage license #4156 St. Martin Parish courthouse. **NOTE: The only THERESE ROBIN I found was born to MELCHIOR ROBIN & MARIE CELINA BERGERON on December 22, 1843, volume 1, page 220, St. Charles Borromeo Church, Grand Coteau, La. CHARLES and THERESE had the following children: 1. LAURA MOODEY dob November 25, 1873 (barely avoided scandal!! LOL)...volume 3 page 121, St. Francis Regis Catholic Church, Arnaudville, La. 2. FRANCOIS WILLIE MODY dob February 6, 1877.....volume 3 page 182, St. Francis Regis Catholic Church, Arnaudville, La. WILLY MUDY married ROSA BLANCHARD on April 18, 1895.....his father Charles was deceased by mother Therese was alive...... volume 7 page 137, St. John's Cathedral, Lafayette, La. ROSA MATHILDA BLANCHARD was born to HILAIRE & AZELIE LEBOEUF on December 3, 1870...volume 7, page 44, St. John's Cathedral, Lafayette, La. **NOTE: It appears that ROSA was 24 years and WILLIE was only 18 years when they were married.........
