    1. [LA-CEN] 1900CEN -CLAUSE or CLOSE
    2. Judy Wostal
    3. 1900 Census Lookup please. St. Martin or St. Landry Parish My Great Grandfather was known as Nichol Clause. He was born 21 Dec 1880 in Arnaudville, LA. I believe the surname, which was originally "CLOSE" had, by that time, changed to "CLAUSE". His full name may have been Joseph Nicholls/Nichol "Nichol" Close/Clause. He was born or was raised in Arnaudville, St. Landry Parish, LA His marriage license dated 29 Jan 1901 in St. Martin Parish shows him as Nicholls Clause of St. Martin Parish. He married Cecile Webre (Marie Cecile Webre) of St. Martin Parish. Nicholls Clause would have been about 19 or 20 years old in 1900. His father was Alexandre Close or Clause of Grand Coteau (later Arnaudville) and his step-mother was Marie Ozea Stelly. I believe Nicholls was raised by "Breaux" cousins. (Who were these Breaux cousins?) His half siblings were: Josephine Clause born (18 Sep 1884 in Arnaudville, LA) Fernando Clause born (14 Apr 1886 in Arnaudville, LA) Thereze Petronilla Clause born (1 Jun 1887 in Arnaudville, LA) Noe Clause born (7 Oct 1894 in Arnaudville, LA) Thank you for your help. Louis Fromental is listed in the Assumption Parish 1820 census. Also, the 5 Feb 1816 marriage at Assumption Church in Plattenville of a Louis Fromental to Maria Ignacia Boudraux is listed in DIOCESE OF BATON ROUGE CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS, Volume 3, page 339. Louis is stated to be a native of St Germain Parish in Paris. Baptism records of their children are also listed. You should be able to rent out-of-state US Census microfilm at an LDS Family History Center. Another option is to have your local public library order census microfilm via inter-library loan. The 4 yr. old Lucretia in the 1850 Census married Thomas Jefferson Gordon, possibly around 1865. They were my gr. grandparents, and settled in the Iowa, Louisiana area, a place called Hecker, about 20 miles north-east of Lake Charles, LA. where my grandfather, William Cornelius Gordon, was born and raised. William Gordon married Laura Marcantel of Phillips Bluff near Kinder, LA. The Ozra Bushnell, age 9 (male) in 1860 Census is Ezra Bushnell who settled in the Indian Village area, LA, area and married Virginia Nevils. There are many descendants living in the area as of today. Now if only I can find Thomas Jefferson Gordon! He appears on the 1870 Calcasieu Parish Census as H/H with his family. Before that I have no clue on him. Maybe someone out there can help me with him. Thanks, Ethel.
