Todd I found the family listed in the St James Parish 1850 census as copied and published by Elton Oubre. They are listed as No. 358 as follows: CHAPDSEY, Robert age 44 Mechanic born Rhode Island Sarah age 39 born Massachusetts Robert age 10 born Louisiana George age 8 " William age 6 " Sarah age 4 " POIRIER, Ozeme age 17 Mechanic " Interestingly, one of the boys was given a Catholic baptism even though the family was protestant. Volume 8 (1853-1857) of DIOCESE OF BATON ROUGE CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS, page 135, has a baptism abstract for Augustin George CHADSEY of protestant parents whose names are not listed in the act. The baptism date was 22 May 1856 and the boy was age 13. His sponsors were Benjamin Webre and Mrs. Webre. The baptism is recorded in the Baptismal Register of St Michael Catholic Church in Convent, Book 6, page 274.
