    2. John Gaudin
    3. J. O. LeBlanc, son of Joseph Casimire LeBlanc, was born in Port Barre, LA, on 18 June 1860. He was a merchant and one of the incorporators of Port Barre. He died in New Orleans on 16 April 1916, but his body was sent to Opelousas. He was buried from St. Landry's Catholic Church, but no mention of the burial site is given. His son, my grandfather, never mentioned the location to anyone. J. O. LeBlanc was not listed in the book on the large cemetery in Opelousas, nor are any of his LeBlanc relatives. John Oliver's wife died 20 years later. She was buried with her family at Lower Waxia Cemetery, near Port Barre. If he happened to have been buried there, his grave could have been washed away many years ago. Many thanks for any ideas or suggestions! John Gaudin

    3. Joseph Casimire LeBlanc, originally from St. James Parish, LA. Moved to Port Barre, LA, in St. Landry Parish. J. C. LeBlanc remained in Port Barre the remainder of his life. He was the father of John Olivier LeBlanc. According to Hebert's Southwest_Louisiana_ _Records, he died 29 June 1885. Burial location not given in it. Can't recall the name of the book giving names of those in the large Opelousas Cemetery, but none of my LeBlanc relatives are listed in it. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. 2. John Gaudin
    3. Originally from Ireland, John F. Morrogh was a Washington, LA, attorney. He was in his early 50's when he died there on 23 October 1873. The location of his burial was not in the family Bible, _Southwest_LA_Records_, nor in his obituary. Several descendants have unsuccessfully searched Cedar Hill Cemetery, in Washington, numerous times over the years. Ideas anyone? Thank you! John Gaudin

She gives us several leads. Will someone volunteer to do the calling? I could do it but I'm already up to my ears in board meetings, classes, projects, volunteer work, and so much more. BTW, I took Dr. McKillops class "Archaeology of Death" three or four years ago. It was great. (I'm a granny/student majoring in Anthropology. Will graduate in December.) We studied cemeteries, burial practices, etc. and took some great field trips. She was a little surprised to hear that we called it the "Death" class. I still say that was my favorite class. If someone can work on this, please let the list know. I think we're all concerned. Brenda ~~~~~~ "Brenda, The laws regarding cemeteries are complex in Louisiana. There is a Cemeteries Board in charge of registered cemeteries. You should call them on Monday. If you can't find their number in the phone book, call the LA Division of Archaeology, 342-8170. The State Archaeologist, Dr. Tom Eubanks, should be able to refer you to the Cemeteries Board. You could also call Rachel Watson--remember one of my former graduate students--who now works full-time for the Division of Archaeology (same number). She works for Mr. Duke Rivet in the Division of Archaeology's Section 106 office dealing with archaeological assessments. Please keep me informed about your progress with the Cajun cemeteries. Of course, I am very sympathetic to the preservation of graves in cemeteries as markers of past culture. Todd I found the family listed in the St James Parish 1850 census as copied and published by Elton Oubre. They are listed as No. 358 as follows: CHAPDSEY, Robert age 44 Mechanic born Rhode Island Sarah age 39 born Massachusetts Robert age 10 born Louisiana George age 8 " William age 6 " Sarah age 4 " POIRIER, Ozeme age 17 Mechanic " Interestingly, one of the boys was given a Catholic baptism even though the family was protestant. Volume 8 (1853-1857) of DIOCESE OF BATON ROUGE CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS, page 135, has a baptism abstract for Augustin George CHADSEY of protestant parents whose names are not listed in the act. The baptism date was 22 May 1856 and the boy was age 13. His sponsors were Benjamin Webre and Mrs. Webre. The baptism is recorded in the Baptismal Register of St Michael Catholic Church in Convent, Book 6, page 274. 2. Would you please look up Emmett Seay , Grandfather - various ways to spell Emmett. I have never seen it written other than by my father and we spell it Seay - I am sure of the correct spelling of the last name. Emmett is buried, I believe in the same cemetery as his 2nd wife Ouida Caranahan. His first wife was Sadie Endora CRAWFORD, my Grandmother, she is buried in Osborn Creek Cemetery, just west of Prentis, Wheeler, MS with other members of my family the SHINAULT and Crawford.
