I saw what was left of the old original cemetery and I saw the parking lot that took its place. There was a marker that had the names of the people who served in the American Revolution and other important people, that are buried somewhere on those grounds (underneath the parking lot). Most of the people buried there are the original Acadians that came over, including Joseph Broussard, François Broussard, Firmin Breaux, Charles Guilbeau, François Guilbeau, Jean Baptiste Hebert, and many others. I am ready to take action to try to stop this sacrilege from taking place. I will get in touch with as many people as I can to arouse interest in this matter and I urge everyone one else to do the same. Hi all, I am looking for a record of a family member who was living in DeRidder when he was killed in 1908. He was an Italian immigrant, Vito Inzirillo. We beleive he was probably buried in Lake Charles - as that was likely the nearest Catholic cemetary back then. Can anyone help identify the cemetary? Would there have been more than one assocaited with a Catholic church at that time? What death records are available for the area at that time? Any hints, clues, info would be appreciated. Thanks Gerry McDonald
List, Looking for information about Science Hill Cemetery which is located in the general area of Glenmora, Turkey Creek, and Bayou Chicot in south central Louisiana. I am looking for the burial sites of: John Edward Carroll died 1877, his son Thomas Robinson Carroll died 1914, and possibly some of his siblings and their spouses. The grave of Elinor Carroll Welch, a sister, has a marker. Would appreciate any information about this cemetery. Shirley Metrejean cajungal@bayou.com

Hi Lists, Ok, I just e-mailed the State Archaeologist and included several of your e-mails as ammunition. I'll let you know when he responds. If anyone is down in Metarie, maybe you can call the Cemeteries Board. Their number is (504) 838-5267. Brenda P.S. Did y'all know that people who love cemeteries are called "Taphophiles?" Yep! ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1
Hi, The Charles SAVOIE below is also a direct ancestor of mine. If anyone can help find out if this is his grave that is going to be destroyed, please let me know. As I would be happy to add my contribution to help in saving it. BG ps Janetta, get hold of me if you need more info on this line, BG Janetta Nill Miller wrote: > I have a Charles Savoie of St. Martin Parish listed as one of my husband's > ancestors, but I have not done any research yet on this family. List, The bottom line is money and time to save the tombs of our ancestors...Count me in, just let me know when, where and how... I know the sinking feeling and heaviness of heart when looking for the burial site of an ancestor. Searching for the final resting place of my great great grandparents, so for all we know is ..."somewhere in that direction...among the weeds...their grave might be marked with a rusty hubcap..." The property is now owned by a logging company. A good place to start this major project is on the local level, eg. the church in St. Martinville. Then contacting the Diocese whether it be Lafayette, Homer-Thibodeaux, etc. perhaps there are funds that could be made available. Letter writing to the appropriate parties is a good beginning. Does anyone have the address for the Diocese of Lafayette? Bishop ??? O'Donnell. Thanks Shirley Metrejean cajungal@bayou.com
You didn't see Christophe Chevalier deL'Homme's flag. It is at the foot, about 4" off the ground, very easy to not see without a 2 year old in your company. Mary
I have a Charles Savoie of St. Martin Parish listed as one of my husband's ancestors, but I have not done any research yet on this family. Does anyone have any information on the Savoie tombstone that is tagged? My Charles Savoie was born about 1703. His wife was Francoise Martin. How would I find information on the inscription? Are these tagged tombs to be destroyed or moved? What happens to the tombstones? I just joined this list, so I've missed part of this discussion. It is impossible for me to express my deeply hurt feelings that someone woul= d=20 be so cruel to destroy these graves. I left the cemetery with a very heavy=20 heart. Most of the tombs tagged are over 150 years old. There was a tagged= =20 tomb of one of my ancestors: J. F. H. Caillet. It is the most magnificentl= y=20 built tomb in the whole cemetery. He died well over 170 years ago. There=20 was a very touching inscription on the tomb, in French. It said how noble=20 and respectable the man was. Someone must have loved him very much to make=20 that wonderful tribute and it's horrible to think that anyone would want to=20 destroy it. I urge everyone to visit that tomb. It is plot 140. Many of=20 the tombs listed above have a husband and a wife in them. I just listed the= =20 husband's name because I was in a hurry. After seeing those poor,=20 unfortunate graves, I am prepared to do ANYTHING I can to save them. I am=20 planning to go speak to the priest of St. Martin de Tours in St. Martinville= .=20 I welcome anyone that would like to join me. I am only 15 years old and I=20 want them to take me seriously. If some people can't come, maybe we could=20 get a petition started. How does a person find out whose tombs are flagged and how much is needed to "rescue" it? I don't live near St. Martinville and am unable to get there. Would calling there or would writing be better? There isn't/wasn't "perpetual care" for those tombs?
