    3. I'm sorry I missed that the first one came to the list. I thought it came only to my admin email. My mistake. I have seen these same type of messages on 3 other lists today from different people. Esther, it would be a good idea to run a scan on your computer. Anyone who ever sees a message to a list from themselves that has weird links or they didn't send should do a cleanup on their computer and everyone needs to be careful about clicking links. RootsWeb is plain text and viruses don't go through it. But they can't stop links posted to a list from an infected computer. We all have seen and used great genealogy links on the lists, we just need to be careful. 1. [La-Cajun] What is a Cajun, Find out. Corky
    2. Alice Berges
    3. I received this from my dear friend, Corky, this morning and I kept her words on it for you to read as well. She is the friend that went with me to Nova Scotia in 2003. We toured that place from the tippy top to the bitty bottom.. lol Then we toured the lower part of Louisiana where my ancestors continued to live, laugh and love after they relocated there. Alice in La Porte, TX Folks, Now I know this to be true, I've been adopted into the Cajun Culture by several of my Cajun Friends. I've eaten in their homes, went to their dances, investigated their swamps and rode an air boat down the Sabine River with twelve foot long Alligators swimming along side the boat. I've walked out a board walk and looked into the dense swamp with the huge roots of the trees pushing up all around in the dark swampy waters, and the water rippling with unknown things swimming in it. It is an exciting world. I've still an aunt in her ninety's there and cousins. My Grandparents are Buried in north LA. How I love the excitement of the Cajun land. It's music, the food, and laughter,it's people, and the accent of their cajun speech. It's a different place than any other you may visit in this land. Try it, You'll like it! Corky What is a Cajun, By Bobby Hamm, Bolton '52- --- What is a Cajun? According to the history books, a Cajun is a descendant of a hardy group of Nova Scotian exiles who settled over 200 years ago along the bayous and marshes of South Louisiana. The name Cajun (they tell us) is a contraction of "Acadienne .. Acadian." So much for the textbook! Little Cajun children are made of gumbo, boudin and sauce piquante ... crawfish stew and oreilles de cochon. The Cajun child is given bayous to fish in, marshes to trap in, room to grow in, and Catholic churches to worship in. (In other parts of the world, little girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice; while little boys are made of snips and snails and puppydog tails.) A Cajun likes fiddles and accordions in his music, plenty of pepper in his courtboullon, shrimp in his nets, speed in his horses, neighborliness in his neighbors, and love in his home. He dislikes people who don't laugh enough, fish enough, or enjoy enough of all the good things God has given to the Cajun country. Also, he dislikes being hurried when he's resting and distracted when he's working; seeing people unhappy, and he'll do all he can or give all he has to bring a smile to a face stricken with sadness. A Cajun likes to dance and laugh and sing when his week of hard work has ended. And just as Saturday night at the fais-do-do replenishes his store of energy, Sunday at church refreshes his spiritual and moral values and keeps strong his always sustaining faith. A Cajun is a link with a proud past. His is a glorious heritage! He is a man of tolerance who will let the world go its way if the world will let him go his. He is a man of great friendliness who will give you the crawfish off his table, the sac-a-lait off his hook, or the shirt off his back. A Cajun is a complex person, with as many ingredients in his makeup as the gumbo Mama makes for special company. He has tolerance for those who earn it, charity for those who need it, a smile for those who will return it, and love for all who will share it. If a Cajun likes you, he'll give you this whole wide, wonderful world; and if he doesn't, he'll give you a wide berth. When you cross a Cajun, he gives you the back of his hand and the toe of his boot, for he can be stubborn as a mule and ornery as an alligator. If he sets his head on something, he'll fight a circlesaw before he'll yield to your opinions -- you'd as well argue with a fence post as to try to convince a Cajun. And, as fun-loving as he is, a Cajun can work as hard and as long as any living man. He carved out "Acadiana" by hand, from the swamp and marshes and uncultivated prairies. But when the work is done and argument is ended, a Cajun can sweep you right into a wonderful world of joie de vivre with an accordion chorus of "Jole Blone" and a handful of happy little words ... five little words to be exact: "Lessez le bon ton roulle!" -- Translated: "Let the good times roll!"

    1. [La-Cajun] Roger Rozendal
    2. Alice Berges
    3. I hope the picture comes out for all of you. Hugs.. Alice in La Porte, TX -------------------------------------------------------------------- Roger Anthony Rozendal ROGER ANTHONY ROZENDAL, 74, died on the 22nd of October 2008, ending a struggle that began with a heart attack on the 10th of March. Roger was born in Volga, South Dakota to Bernard and Josephine Rozendal on the 30th of January 1934. In 1956, he graduated magna cum laude from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a BS in Geological Engineering. A year later, he received a MS in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Minnesota and began his 34 year career with Shell Oil Company. After being hired in Tucumcari, New Mexico, he moved around West Texas field mapping for Shell, followed by a three month long post at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri in the Army Corps of Engineers. In 1961, he married Patricia Thebedeaux Scott and they moved to Abilene, Texas. As he rose in Shell's Exploratoin Management division, his family gained three sons while moving with his work between Houston, Texas, Abilene, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Midland, Texas, and finally settling for the last 34 years back in Houston. As his sons grew up, he brought each of them into the Boy Scouts of America. As an Assistant Scoutmaster for his sons' troops, Roger helped in planning and leading monthly weekend camping trips and numerous educational activities for the scouts, providing moral, scientific, social and environmental development. In 1991, Roger retired as Chief of Operations for Pecten International (Shell Oil's international subsidiary). Roger and Pat began traveling with Shell retiree friends in 1992 and have made at least one foreign trip a year since. In 1991, he began service as an officer of South Padre Island Condo Association and on the national board of directors of Owner's Resort Exchange until this year. Between trips, Roger became a certified Master Gardener, and applied these skills for 13 years managing the daylily garden of Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens and in building the Texas native wildflower trail for the Friends of Texas Wildlife at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Burrows Park, Tomball. His other volunteer work included positions at the Atwater Prairie Chicken Refuge and AARP Tax Consulting for the elderly. He became interested in genealogy and began tracking Pat's Cajun heritage, gaining respect for his careful research among the Cajun Genealogy community. From 1998 to 2006, Roger dedicated himself to providing for the social and health needs of his mother, Josephine, as her primary caregiver in the final years of her life. Roger is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pat, and three sons: Robert and his partner, John Dickens, Paul, and Keith. The family would like to thank Joseph Ramsubhag of Vitas Hospice Services in Houston, for providing excellent and effective TLC, going above and beyond the call of duty for both Roger and Pat since August 2008. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from nine until ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 25th of October, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. The funeral service will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, following the visitation. Interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston. For those desiring, memorial contributions in Roger's name may be directed to The Mercer Society at 22306 Aldine Westfield Road, Houston, Texas 77338-1071.
